As I posted before I installed an Induction Kit. Now where normally the old box would have been is the pipe for the induction kit. Its about 5-7 inch away from the engine.

After a 30min drive I opened the bonnet and felt that the metal pipe from the induction kit was hot.

Is that normal? Can it do any damage to the sensor?
If its not normal what can I do to make it cool? Would covering it with a heat resistan material help?

I have a simple pipercross filter replacement so cant say for sure but ...

Anything sitting next to a V6 is going to get HOT ! - Thats the main reason for CAI to get cold air from the outside - It shouldnt damage the sensor and sounds pretty normal - hopefully one of the other guys with a CAI pipe will comment .... ( until then my reasurance will have to do :) )

How fun...

Thanks G-Force.

Unfortunatly I couldnt find any CAI for the xedos. It was bit hard to find the pipercross that will fit.

I was thinking maby open a hole in the bonnet to get fresh air like that but not sure how much that will be, if it will good and also the rain will get it. :D

Hi matrix

Like G says they ALL get warm sitting next to any engine will heat up even a CAI, BUT if the CAI is chromed or silver then it will reflect a lot off the heat from the CAI, due to the way heat is transfered, throught different colours, silver being very reflective, and black and dark colours will absorbe heat more hence having a black car in summer will most likely toast the driver quicker than a lighter colour car ( i think all stuff from science class a looooooog time ago).

But the air inside the pipe will still be cooler than whats was going in with your old intake :).

take a look at mine and that gets hot  .

hi mx6si

Emm it's custom one we made ourselfs :) 2 bits off exhaust pipes from some large van, thern flaired at one end to fit the throttle body, then chromed, some couplers from the states, and sometimes with a pipercross filter down at the bottom end iff it :).

Whole thing i think cost about £100 for pipes and the chrome plating, so not bad.

As Ken said we can compare on Sunday since it’s more easy. What’s hot for me might be ok for others. :)

Bedlam,
Nice CAI I like the colour and design of it. Great job mate.

you know the blue rubber you use to connect the pipes together, where can I find that because I think I need one to make the induction kit fit better? Its ok at the moment but I want it bit better :)

Also can I have your fuse box cover:p ?
Where did you get that anyway? Looks rather nice.

Hi matix

The fusebox cover was made by my brother, and chromed, but there is a guy on the probe site who makes them for the 6 and probe, Cornish626 has one from him not chromed but nice all the same :), the couplers i can't remember the link came from the states, maybe Cornish626 can help you out with it MIke ?.

Hi Andy, just wanted to tell you that your engine bay looks fantastic.. mine is awful in comparison.. Just wondering (george, you will be interested to know this).. next door to where I work, there is a sheet metal works, Im sure if we ask them nicely they can knock up some bits and bobs for the engine bay (for a small payment of course)

I think that they did a small job for one other guy in our department for a fiver..

Also, whilst I think of it, what's the story with cleaning the engine bay when there's an induction kit on there? I suppose just covering with a plastic bag would be good enough????

When cleaning the engine bay, if you do what i do and use 1 off them little home pressure washers, then ALWYS have the engine running with someone inside the car keeping the revs up and watch the electics, and dizzy, fuse box,and keeping a plastic bag over the filter on the indution filter while it is running i wouldn't do just a quick swipe with the washer it will be ok.

PS
Ken m8 i got mine from a diff place, but as usal they went to my m8 in Florida (who is an unsung hero off mine Thanks Derrek :) ), he repacks them and sends them on to me }) (now i wonder why i do that }) .
