I finally got under my car today to pinpoint where the exhaust leak was coming from (I had always assumed that it was the flex pipe, but it wasn't.... also noticed that the flex pipe has been replaced before [could tell by the welding])....

It's coming from I guess what you'd call the "premuffler" or "resonator" (doens't look like a resonator though).... it's the first "muffler" right after the cat... the leak is coming from around the weld on the front part of that "muffler".... I'm thining of having a muffler shop just use new flanges (after they take the "piece" off) and weld a straight pipe there....

I dunno if that makes any sense... basically.. take the old piece off (at the flanges) and put a "pipe" in it's place.

Or unless you know or recommend anyone that I can get a replacenent part from.... Like to spend less than $100 if possible to fix it... I can do it myself (replace the pipe).. but can't weld...I'd have a muffler shop or somethin do that for me...

I'm glad it's not the flex pipe, and that it's already been replaced! Whew!

Yeah, it's called the "resonator," and it almost always rusts out where the pipe meets the front of it. These are very common parts to replace and can be found at any local parts store for between $50-100. You can get a straight pipe welded in if you don't mind it being a little louder.

can't be any louder than my 240 is. :) and I don't mind that one bit...

This isn't the "intermediate pipe" is it? That is the part after the pipe I'm talking about, but before the muffler, correct? (Sometimes I think it's called the B-pipe?)

is the resonator pretty much a straigh thru design, or is it more restrictive like a muffler? I would mind getting rind of it if it's restrictive...

I just picked it up this morning, and it looks more straight through, but I can't say for sure.... I can see light at the other end of the pipe, but I can't see throught it because it bends on both sides.
