On my way home last night, I lined up next to an Impreza 2.5 at a red light. It had the hood scoop on it, so I think it was one of the new ones. I absolutely roasted him from the start. I took like a 3 car lead. Later, he started to kind of stay with me, but my lead was still growing a little bit, until we stopped at another light where there were some cars.

By the way, I had a passenger and he didn't, for what it's worth.

Sounds pretty good, I'm a little suprised you didn't beat him by more. He may have had some mods though, most idiots that buy a POS like that mod them up. Stock they do 0-60 in approx. 8.3 and us stock are about what 7.5 or so

THANK YOU! if there is one thing i hate (other than nissan) its subaru. I have the right to hate them. I live close to santa fe NM. And there are more tree hugging lesbians (a.k.a. subaru owners) around here than my mind can comprehend. Subarus suck

Good kill.

I don't understand YZF's hate for Nissans, but no biggie.

I saw a LOT of Subarus in Colorado. The only explanation I could come up with is the fact that they make AWD cars--good for the snow. Therefore, they may have somehow got a reputation there.

Yeah, I didn't really make great shifts and he had an aftermarket exhaust.

I've been kind of rusty with the stick ever since I bought the Tribute and let my son have the MX6 in September, but I'm starting to drive the MX6 on weekends, since basketball season is over.

Oh, and those new WRX's sound really fast (2.0 TT ?227hp?) and AWD to put it down. We'll always be able to say that our cars look better than theirs though.

Just out of curiosity, have any of you ever tried driving an impreza 2.5RS? They handle like they are on rails and are a ton of fun to drive. Just thought I'd add that because my buddy's got one and I don't think it's fair to bad mouth a pretty nice car. Sorry if some of you don't agree with my opinion...but it's just my .02

You're gonna hate getting burned by the new WRX, then. Car & Driver hustled it to 60 from a standstill in 5.8 seconds.

first of all, i used to have a 1991 subaru loyale wagon automatic. it was slow, ugly, and noisy, but it went ANYWHERE. that thing was better in the snow and off road than my parents grand cherokee. and mx6killa: i really really hope you're not saying that a forester "killed" a ferrari 360 modena... thats ridiculous to say the least.

i have a friend that has one aswell. They dont hang with me very well in speed but off the line those little bastards will take me by a car length or two. Its that damn all wheel drive. They are fun. He has all the air intake stuff cut out of the hood and exhaust and some pullies. Real nice cars. I need to go test drive the new turbo wrx's

All of the impreza's with the hood scoops have the 2.5 in them. Yes subaru actually caters to the gay and lesbian community. They are the only car manufacturer to specifically target that community. The new wrx is fast and it's put together pretty good. Subaru has also won more manufacturer's cups in world ralley racing. BTW nissan used to own 15% of subaru and I think they still do. Subaru's were never the best looking or performing (in US) cars but just try and kill one. I've seen quite a few with 300-500,000 miles on the original engines. I'm getting just as impressed with the mx6(235,000 miles on my 89 LX). Just give credit where credit is due.

I live in CO and you are right.. the AWD makes them good family cars. I haven't seen any fast ones out here yet....

I wouldn't be rippin up the Subaru so bad right now 'cause your going to be embaressed easily a lot if you keep trying to race them. Wow be proud, you beat a 2.5RS, yeah they are nothing, the rally car with no engine, a big 150hp max. Just watch out now 'cause the WRX has 227hp and it sticks to the road. Yeah you may not like the looks, probably 'cause its so different, but with the performance it has it will no longer be known as a tree huggers car but rather a true performer, and for a long time, these cars last. Engines can expect to easily go past 300000km.

So go ahead and beat up on the old style Impreza, but when you roll up beside a new one, check the emblem on the back to make sure your not digging your own grave.

IF you guys are so quick to trash Subarus then you obivously have never seen them on a road course. I autocross my car and there are a couple that race with me. They give me considerable trouble and that says a lot since i am always in the top three and won the last race of the season last year. In fact i saw a impreza 2.5 with an intake ans exhaust beat a modified eclipse GS-T with 211 hp at the rear wheels. That translates to probably 260 or more at the flywheel. Yeah your v-6 mx6 might be able to beat it in a straight line but that is not what the car was made for so just dont get so cocky next time you try and autocross against one and it kicks you but all over the course. I also think they are very nice looking cars.

Oh hell yeah i have driven one of those! Trubo charged flat six in an all wheel drive car those things were nice. It is not the fastest or best handling car but it is just so smooth that is is easy to drive fast.

Mazdaspeed6- I think the car you're thinking of is the XT by subaru. The car looked kind of like a flying wedge. It was the only coupe by subaru to feature a turbo (actually 4 cyl turbo). The SVX was a bigger car similar in class to a 300zx or 3000gt. It was never offered with a factory turbo but it had a 230hp 3.3liter flat six and was good for 0-60 in under 8 seconds. Not a rocket but a decent overall car. Just watch out for the crappy transmissions (92's had the worst). I had one for a while and it was alot of fun in the snow. I just hated the fact that it was automatic only.

BTW they have turbo kits and supercharger kits available for the the impreza 2.5 motors that put them upto the 230hp range(stock is 165hp).
