Righto people, maybe I'm a bit tight, but I just got a quote from GIO and it is going to cost 3 grand for insurance!!!

How do you people afford the insurance. I'm a rating 3, 23 yo, but the quote was for a 24 yo rating 2! (new car next year). I mean hot dang! Does anyone get reasonable insurance prices up here - or am I just a shel-shocked ex-Tasmanian.

How do you afford it?

well im in sydney...and am 19...and with AAMI..AAMI do not even insure this car at all to anyone under 30...so ur lucky in that regard...

it is under my dads name with me as a secondary driver hehe

$1500 comprehensive
$300 or maybe slightly less i forgot for third party

keep in mind my dad has full no claim bonus..
and i thought it was common knowledge that no one in their right mind would buy a turbo car and ensure it under their own name IF they are under 25
hehe
Sorry ductape, I was talking about the 2nd gen with the na v6....

That secondary driver bit sounds like an idea - too bad if you live away from home.....

Hay McGoo,

Yep - this is a little tricky. Being young and having a p3nis doesn't help with getting insurance.

I had a lot of trouble when I initially insured mine, and I was rating 1, 24 yo. Only a few companies would do it:

Young and cool: www.youngandcool.com.au
Just cars: www.justcars.com.au (underwritten by aami)
RAA: Very pricey
Adelaide Bank (Underwritten by CGU)

When I first got my insurance it was $960, its reduced a bit from then though.

You'll have to ring around. INterestingly enough, a LOT more companies would insure the ford probe than the mx6 (I was looking at these as well)..

Good luck!

OH ...well if its the 2nd gen...ur insurance would be much less

tru tru .. which is why i said its common knowledge that no one in their right mind would buy a turbo car and ensure it under THEIR own name IF they are under 25

but if i were you...i would be finding a family member and asking them to insure it under there name with u as a secondary driver... or just getting 3rd party insurance under ur own name if ur family doesnt love u hehe jk ;)
im down in vic and a young and cool, syd mob......looking after me
i got a gen2, im paying $2800....and i can only just aford on a monthly basses, so im paying 239 a mon, "and im a 19in yr old that has 1 stack"

and no! im not rich......i work in a bar, just so i can aford this car!!, but the cars worth it, :)
Check out Famous Classic Car Insurance too, www.famousinsurance.com.au. Used to be with Young & Cool but just switched.

yup, and if you get it insured with YOU as a secondary driver, and you happen to NOT be the secondary driver but actually the main driver and the insurance company finds this out, your insurance will be void...

how do i know this? my father is a solicitor and deals with insurance companies (mainly NRMA) and if they discover this, you are in deep ****...not only will you have wasted money on void insurance, but you will also have a record with the insurance company for insurance fraud...it's lying, and not worth it...what's the point of having insurance if it doesn't actually cover you (if they find out)???
well I'm with youngandcool premium is 1300 value 14400. 50% no claim bonus ( age 24)
There are definate advantages to having insurance in your own name, it helps further down the road towards your rating, thank about the car you want when your 25, then think if any one would insure you if you have no insurance history ;)

I have heard planty of stories about people who have registered and insured the car in someone elses name and then been denied insurance because they basically lied on their application :(

All that aside, I am a 21 year old in Melbourne and my insurance (no accidents, car garaged, alarm and 2 speeding fines ;) , rating 3 ) is $1300 a year, with Just Car Insurance, its going to be under $1000 next year :D

Good point goopy, about not lying. I'm a 23 y/o, but for the quote I said I would be 24, with a rating 2. No crashes or speeding fines. (true as of next year). I too, live in melbourne; The problem may be that I live in S.Yarra with the car parked out the front.

I also didn't call around (cos with my current car, GIO is the cheapest) - but if it were for real, I would definately call around. I recall ringing AAMI for my last insurance cover. It was over 2 grand (And that was in Tassie!!). GIO was $620, and they insured my car for more :)

Tell you what though, I'l keep the insurance companies in mind that you all have mentioned - such as young-and-hot or whatever it is. I can handle a bit over a grand, but 3 grand is the difference btwn having a trip to QLD or not!
Cheers to all!

I also found it wierd that a 92 gen 2 valued at 13 grand cost $2940 for premium, where as a 95 gen 2 valued at 25 grand (!!!) cost a mere $90 more!! Go figure
I've got a gen one turbo, insured 3rd party only for $5000. It is approximatly $500 a year, but so was my '89 Magna wagon. It was just transfered from the magna with no increase. This is with the RACV, but it almost time for renewal so i might be back complaing soon. I'm almost a 20yo.
G
CGU will cover a 23 y/o for $2000 p/a with 60% NCB living in inner western sydney (Med-High risk) as long as there are no mods

www.cgu.com.au
ins 4 gen 2

I pay $1400 p/y (120 p/month )
(SUNCORP METWAY)

$20000 AGREED VALUE. (YOU HAVE TO PROVE YOUR CAR IS WORTH THAT otherqwise they give you market value.) if ride off.
so i have to put a bodykit and get a value estimate for my 6.

it includes 1 free windscreen every year.

i have rating one 4 life, and anyone who drives the car is insured but age will affeCt the excess to pay when stacked. IF AT FAULT
:D
im only 24,
:D

so im bloody lucky.

had 3 major stacks (none my fault) they costed this much to fix.

7500$-626 auto
7000$-626auto
15000$-626auto - rideoff.

if theyr not your fault they don;t count. says insurance.

Well I've said it before I've payed my car over once just in insureance. plus I was using a 60% no claim. When it went over $3000 I was not shocked just had the ****s.
when your young fast car's just mean forget insurance bieng reasonable. Not only that Parts cost big on Mazda's. 95% are imported most are never off the shelf, it took me 3week wait for a $1200 factory intercooler, that split less then 3 years latter. what luck.

They way it works now no one will have insurance it's just no worth it. I mena on the Wagon's policy they put it up and have never claimed on it. But what happens one car goes to the other. Shocking. my excess for the Mx-6 was $1000 but last year it was $1400 for the Wagon.

Mazda's mean expensive insurance.
You want cheap insurance buy death trap VN Holden V8 easy only $1000 for the lot.
Buahhhhhahahahahahahaahah

i'd rather FUC!K!NG WALK than drive a death trap holden.

everyone around me has one but they all love my car.

everytime a HAVE to drive a holden i have near death experiences. That Fricken bodyroll (bigger than a FAT BIATCH.
specially the vs series (shocking)
No insult to holden owners here(what are you thinking man.)
