Supposedly 6 ISP's began a 6 week pilot trial of internet filtering here today.

So, my google homepage alerted me to a new Slashdot article about said filtering (its funny reading the comments sometimes).

This was a reply - I think its awesome

Apologies to Banjo Patterson.

Once a jolly swagman plugged into the internets,
Under the shade of a coolibah tree,
And he sang as he watched and waited as he torrented
"Don't go deploying your filters on me".

"Deploying your filters, deploying your filters
Don't go deploying your filters on me"
And he sang as he watched and waited as he torrented,
"Don't go deploying your filters on me".

Down came the content speeding through the internets,
Up jumped the swagman and viewed it with glee,
And he sang as he shoved that content on his backup disk,
"You'll be a-wasting your filters on me".

"Wasting your filters, wasting your filters
Don't go a-wasting your filters on me"
And he sang as he shoved that content on his backup disk,
"Don't go a-wasting your filters on me".

Up rode the Conroy, mounted on his ISP,
Down came the troopers, one, two, three,
"Where's that jolly content you downloaded so illicitly?
You've been evading the filters from me."

"Evading the filters, evading the filters
You've been evading the filters from me."
"Where's that jolly content you downloaded so illicitly?
You've been evading the filters from me."

Up jumped the swagman and handed them his backup disk,
"You'll never crack my encryption", said he,
And his packets are tunneled and proxied through the internets,
"You'll never get your bloody filters on me".

"Your bloody filters, your bloody filters
You'll never get your bloody filters on me".
And his packets are tunneled and proxied through the internets,
"You'll never get your bloody filters on me".

I cant believe that they are still thinking about doing this, i think if a family with young kids is worried about there internet then thats all good they should be able to have a filter but i am an adult and i should be responsible for what websites i visit.

The amount of people and companies who don't want this filter and the ISP who don't is huge yet conroy won't listen do you know why? he knows he screwed up he doesn't wanna admit he's going in the wrong direction.

I found it interesting that the filter wasn't deployed to some of the bigger guys specifically the ones who said they will test it just to prove how horrible it is.

It's useless the filter it can be bypassed easily and the guise of filtering to save the children is full of shit they want to be able to filter anything and the filter list their using don't have an option to opt out or talk about incorrect sites being blocked plus it blocks more than just child porn it blocks websites it deems illegal and also sites which they don't like (there was a case about a website blocked for it's proactive stance about the goverments problems)

Well it's a bit slow in here so i thought id give everyone a quick overview of what's happened tot he internet of Australia the past few years

Internet filter has been pushed back multiple times and has also been kept on the back burner to be put forth again even tho no one wants or needs it. We won't see this disappear any time soon as Mr Conroy has shown that it's his baby and he won't stop pushing it forward.

After a long long time coming iiNet an Australian ISP was sued by AFACT (Media organisation for alot of the companies like sony etc think australian MPAA)

They sued iiNet to get a ruling that ISP are responsible for what their users do it's as stupid as holden or ford are responsible for people who use their cars to commit crimes.

AFACT wasn't happy and asked for a new judgement from a higher court and that JUST got shot down too and upheld that iiNet isn't responsible as they are like any other service like mail etc.

Now there's rumours that AFACT will AGAIN go for another judgement in the highest court in australia as they weren't happy with the judgement.

The issue is they wan't to turn the ISP into police for them they say someone has downloaded something and in turn wants the ISP to cut off the persons internet or possible pay damages it's a huge scam and they fact that they are trying to pull it down here and it hasn't been scuessful is a good thing.

But now it looks like Mr Conroy is going to try to push it through on his own to SAVE the media industry.

The media industry hurt themselfs the fact that no one listens to CD anymore and listens to digital files how it's evoled but they are still using their model that it doesn't work. The fact is a CD has a few good songs and the rest were filler now that we can buy the tracks by themselfs and for a good price not ripped off like we use to they are losing money....wait let me rephrase that they aren't getting AS MUCH money as they use too.

Same thing for the movie industry ask anyone whats a good movie the past few years and alot of people have issues responding and why is that? they put out alot of crap so people go to the movies less or try online streaming.

Fact is the music and movie industry are still stuck in their old model and won't move forward and want to keep the higher profits.

Thats why we have companies like AFACT that get a tarnished image for going after consumers when they are doing the work for the major movie companies so their hands are clean.

Another reason is that people don't want to pay the high price tag of the movies and music anymore they don't think its worth that much and yet the industry won't meet the consumer look at the sad state of affairs in australia regarding movie streaming.

There are very few options and the ones that are are overpriced and honestly lack content.

There is a reason Hulu and netflix are popular in usa it's cause it's at a price point the consumers are happy with.

Be warned Mr Conroy is a major issue for everyone and everyone should keep an eye out for what he is doing and voice their opinion.

Speaking of gearboxes, I need someone to do me a favour...

Anyway - I brought this up in another thread about how Conroy got locked out of his iPhone...How Conroy's daughter wrecked his unsecured iPhone

Since then his son changed his alarm, so he slept in and missed some important meeting. Can't find the link - but it's pretty amusing.
