hey this local rice boy was shwoing off his civic at the gas station. I showed him my new airintake, and he was like "you gonna coat it with WD-40??" he says he sprays down his air filter with wd-40. Does this honestly do anything like help the air flow smoother into the engine?

Dont think so, but I think ive heard this before...

I assume you have a cone type filter. I think these filters are oily by nature and must be re-oiled when you clean them out every so often. I'm not sure though since I don't have and never have had one of these filters.

I know that K&N filters have to be coated with their Filter Charger oil to work properly. He probably thought that applied to a regular paper filter. Whatta Moron.

im talking about cone filters...
what exactly does the oil do for the filter?

the oil basically works like a sponge and does not let dirt through(they will stick to oil)... I would not try wd-40.. a real K&N filter recharger kit is only about 10bucks...why risk it...
