I was expecting a rough idle and low end power loss after I installed the cam, but I got a little more than that. The car will stutter and shut off right after I crank it unless I have the throttle wide open, and even then it just barely hangs on at a couple hundred rpms. I've gotten it to rev up a few times, and it runs fine then, but as soon as i let up on the gas it shuts off again.

My guess is that I screwed up the timing when I was putting the timing belt back on. The exhaust cam gear doesn't like to sit at TDC, so it's possible that it slipped a few teeth without me noticing it. Would that explain the problem? Thanks for any help.

Your timing is off. You can either pull everything back off and fix it. Or if it is not tooo bad you may be able to adjust it some by advancing your distribuator. But it is definatley the timing.
