if you don't live in manhattan, yes, you can live fairly comfortably on 90-100k. If you live in the city, you'll either have a small ass apartment with no parking, or you'll be penny pinching.
That's more than i'm making, and i manage to live comfortably in brooklyn (about 45 minute commute to the tennis center in queens, and about 50 minutes to midtown.. however i don't have a garage lol... perhaps that's what i would spend the difference on LOL.
btw, here, a 30 minute to 1 hour commute (almost always subway) is about average, even living in manhattan itself, unless you live and work in the same district.
you would want to look in williamsburg, astoria, greenpoint, etc... great neighborhoods- interesting.. pet friendly, and usually plenty of rentable units with garage space.
