I just bought a 96 M Edition for parts. It took a hard hit to the rt front. I'm gonna use the motor for my 94 LS. I have a few questions that maybe you could help me with.
1. is the HP diferent from my 94
2. what is the m edition
3. i would like to put the keyless entry system into my 94, what do i need to do? are there acuators and a brain that need to be swapped?

Thanks for your help. Is there a PDF repair manual on here?

drivetrain is the exact same. no horsepower difference.

M-edition is just a special edition with some different cosmetic parts.

M-edition rarities are:

all red tails
stainless steel door scuff plates
m edition labeled floor mats
m edition labeled tan ;eather seats
in dash 3 disc cd changer
m edition badging
m edition wheels.

there might be some more, but those are all i can think of right now.

no wheels or 3 disc cd changer, but the other items are there.
been searching and found out that only 2500 M-Editons car were produced in 96. I wish this car wasn't hit so bad.
Hmm.. Pics of the damage, out of curiosity?

And iirc, there's a very slight difference in power from OBDI and OBDII. Like, a tenth or something on the drag, don't recall anything different about it.

If it even is true or not, nothing worth arguing over, haha.
If you're swapping the motor over, then you'll have to look into whether or not the harness and ecu have to be swapped over too. The 96 is obd2, so there might be different sensors, wiring, etc...I don't know the specifics but I'm sure it'll be more than just dropping the new motor in.
Is that info available on her too?
Yes, it is. I know some people have done it, you'll have to search for it or hope that one of the people more knowledgeable on this issue check into this thread.
As mentioned, you're putting an OBD II engine into an OBD I car. As far as I know, there shouldn't be any problem doing this swap, you can use the OBD I ECU and harness with with the later model engine. Doing it the other way would run you into extra sensor issues.

Someone who's done this should chime in.
no horsepower difference.
This is incorrect, good sir.

The 1996 had 160 hp, whereas all other years of 2nd generation MX6s had 164 horsepower.

Just as I thought, but it's still not too much to fret over.

In my opinion, a 96 could beat a 93, just because it possibly is in better condition by 3 years.

But it would all depend on maintenance....
Ugh, wish I could see that pic. Being at school sucks...

why the difference in hp?
why the difference in hp?
The switch from OBDI to OBDII iirc.

Hmm, I wonder how much of a repair that would honestly be...

But the engine still is usable, correct?

Hmm... Not trying to sound rude, but if you don't want the tails, and they're still the M Edition tails, I'd happily buy them from ya.
What I'll probably do is use everything I need from the OBDI on the OBDII, so to hopefully make this a easy switch. My OBD I enginge is still running strong with 212K miles, but it is making some noise from the top. I'm thinking I have a bad cam. Still getting 28mpg.

As far as the M-Edition parts, I'm going to use them on my 94. The drivers seat has a split seam, but I'm going to pull the leather off and restitch it, then redye it. This is an easy DIY. I've redone 2 BMW E36's and 2 VW Cabrilets and both needed interior work. Until I started searching and reading on here I knew nothing about the M-edition. After the swap I'll start taking all the little dings out of the body panel and get it ready for paint. I need the drvrs door off the M-Edition because my brother backed into it at his auto shop. Thats ok though, I need the acutator out of it to make the keyless work and the brain from the trunk.

Ah, don't blame ya, the M edition has some nice accessories. Although I'm only interested in the tails. I saw two up at the junkayard with black leather Interior Sunday, I'm going back tomorrow morning and hoping they're still there. The one had everything, front seats ripped. The other was in PRESTINE condition, with everything but the front seats.

But have fun with rebuilding your other 6. Good luck to ya.
(If there was anything in that pic important, I won't be able to see it for another 3 hours, school laptop has whatever image host that is blocked. :( )

Wait a second, am I missing something? Why do you want to convert it to OBD1?

The switch from OBDI to OBDII iirc.
I can't recall the answer, but I'm sure this isn't it. The 1997 model year had 164 horsepower yet that was also OBDII

I'm not converting it my 94 is an OBDI
