Well just b4 my clutch started to go out, I was on Military Dr. cruisin on a sunday night. Then this guy in a geo storm GSi pulled up and revved his engine at me. I Figured why not since I knew it would be a drivers race. We were going 40-45mph when we both dropped it in 2nd gear and to my surprise, he was pulling on me. His back bumper was right around my front bumper when we slowed down. We both go at it one more time and the same thing happens.

It was all good. We both pulled over and talked about each others car. He asked if I had a V6 and i said no. He told me he did not know our cars came with a 4 cyl. oh well now he knows.

With a smaller, lighter weight car and a 125lb/tq in his engine, I wasnt surprised.

The Geo Storm is a very underrated car.

It was originally developed by Isuzu, and was marketed succesfully as the Isuzu Impulse. A few years later Geo designed its own body and marketed as the Geo Storm. Of course, the Storm got the short end of the stick with a 130hp SOHC motor, while the impulse had a 150hp DOHC turbo motor AND an All wheel drive drivetrain.

Of course, swapping the isuzu parts to the geo body is very straightforward, and the Isuzu DOHC motor is very similar to Mazda's own FE-DOHC. I've seen several storms making 300+ hp on stock bottom ends with upgraded turbo's.

I've also seen a 10 second storm smoke a supra.

So, never underate a storm that revs at you.

Geo Storm GSi

Well when i researched the car the 2nd gen geo storm (made in only 2 yrs) has a 1.8 SOHC with 140 hp and 125lb/tq and it only weighs 2412lbs. Plus in parisafal's Acceleration thread it runs a 16.7 in the 1/4. That is stock. this guy had an intake and exhaust so it was maybe .10 th faster. I dont know for sure. All in all I thought is was a good race even if I lost.

And I dont think it is embarrising at all to lose to this one.

Geos have some decent little engines. Everything from the Impulse to the Geo Predecessors running the T3 engines. (3 banger turbos.) Light weight cars, with ample power that repond quite well to mods. They are very strong little cars. Not to be taken lightly.

For some odd reason the Geo has the same engine as the base Impulse. Either the the 1.6 DOHC making 125-130hp and 102ftlbs and a high redline of 7800rpms!!!! but the Geo only redlined at 6500rpms:confused: I dont get it??

1992 is when they droped in the 1.8 DOHC with 140hp and 120ftlbs.
They have the 1.6L turbo making 160hp and 150ftlbs.......YUUMMY

Its just like a Honda, high revin and no torque.
Great little cars, I remember when I was lookin for a car for my friend. I found a baby blue Impulse with the 1.6L 5speed. It was a 1990 with 102,000miles great lookin car with some paint fade and great leather interior. The people only wanted $1000 for it..............he didnt get it because of the color:rolleyes:
Its been a year and he still dont got a car:p
