well this is the second time I've written up this thread. The first time there was an error when I pressed the "SUBMIT" button... and I lost EVERYTHING.. including a full two hours of my day off. So this took me another two hours (for a total of four) to write up. I decided to compose this thread because its driving me nuts that most people on here think there are three brands of car audio: Alpine, Kenwood and Boss.

There are 150 car audio companies out there.. and here are highlights of the best and other newbies to the industry. There are LOTS of companies that I'm leaving out that are well deserving of reconition. But I have a life too and can't spend too much time on this forum.
This took a LOT of time to make so I hope you enjoy. If you have any questions about a particular line or company... ask me (and I can't fully help you) then I'll ask some of the renowned car audio guru's that I talk to on your belhalf. Best wishes and happy buying.

This is one of the oldest companies in car audio... around since the mid to early 1980's they make the widest variety out there.. and also own Viper Alarms.. A/D/S and TONS of others... the speakers in the pic are the CSX650's

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Graham_A_M again.

Graham whats ur take on Alpine?

I've ready plenty of his posts to let you know that he's probably going to say something along the lines of....

Unbelievably talked up... like to the extreme... And that brands along that line run along par with Pyramid..

Now lets see if I'm right on that response :) haha... Anyone reading this should definately karma this guy. He has educated me quite a bit and has helped me a ton.

Graham, I tip my hat to you :D

Thanks for all the karma.. man that post took forever.

Kiser: I did forget Earthquake thanks for reminding me. Yes they make unworldly good stuff. I have two modded Earthquake D2's in my car (1999 model) that are dishing out 2300 watts each. Yes they are incredible amps... ultra clean.. and VERY VERY high current.

here is a pic.

These are wicked amps... highly recommended.

Mazdaman92:.... what Pnut Said.. Alpine is VERY overhyped. They make good signal processing equipment... and CD players too.. but thats all I'd EVER buy from them. I think (personally) they're speakers and subs sound like a horses ass. The best box we ever came up with for a Alpine type R was a sealed of (XX) volume.. even then it sounded muddy and monotonous. I'd honestly avoid they're speakers and subs like the plague.. but thats just me.
I walked into a "best buy" a while ago and I was amazed at how Brash and un-controlled the tweets were of the Type R components (thats a result of a poor crossover design) It costs about $.16 extra per pair of speakers to use more and better crossover components thus giving the speaker a better overall timbre and tonality.. but NOPE.. can't do it.. not even for $279/ pair that they are selling for. WTF?
I was quite disgusted by the horrid lack of response the mid-woofer was performing at.. Over-layed by a remarkilbly brash (VERY CHEAP) tweeter... left me ready to barf. It never ever ceases to amaze me at how people can think that sounds good. Honestly... maybe I'm just not that smart.. but after listening to $18,000 a pair home audio speakers, as well as pioneering my own audio line when I was 17... I know how good speakers are SUPPOSED to sound. Not horrifically brash and nasty. The Vocal selection I listened to was very unclear.. the high notes would make your eardrums quiver.. it was just bad sounding. It just frusterates the heck out of me that Alpine can fool newbies into thinking that.... that is how its supposed to sound.. which couldn't be farther then the truth.

TREO Engineering

http://www.treoonline.com

Making what i believe to be the best subs you can get.

Their CSX (competition series extreme) speaker.
Wattage Rating: "
Capable of withstanding tone bursts from any commercially available amplifier"

HIFONICS

http://www.maxxsonics.com/hifonics/

Hifonics puts out some of the baddest amps i have ever seen. Their MAXXIMUS amp puts out a whopping 10,000watts RMS continuous @ 2ohms!!!!!!

Memphis Car Audio

http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/

All around SOLID car audio company. Anything you buy from them will be quality and will satisfy the mild car audio competitor

If I'm overstepping Graham_A_M sorry :E Just needed to rep the products that i rep in my car.

karma due for this guy. ^ Treo makes some wicked subs too.. just awesome stuff.

Memphis also makes deadly subs.. I was talking with this guy out in eastern Canada.. that uses a pair (dont know which model) but he competes using the subs... and regularily dished 6k watts continuously into them without too many worries.

WOW.. check this out.. I just went through all my links and I found THIS!!
http://s87357361.onlinehome.us/images/amps/

pics of all the good amps.

Another update to be done soon.. this ^ link reminded me about lots of amazing companies out there like American Bass, ARC audio and lots of others.

Least I forget Image Dynamics

http://www.cardomain.com/item/IDSIDQ15D2V2
I attended an SPL comp a while back that had a Geo Metro (or maybe it was a Chevy Sprint, or a Suzuki Swift)
but it had 8 of these ^ subs in it. It was so stupidly loud you couldn't even fathom it. Have you ever had your eardrums literally bounce in your head? how about have your insides shaked to the point that you almost throw-up in the first two seconds?

IT was the loudest car I've EVER seen. (company demo) it cost $20k to build. Did (only) 164db's though. which isn't too much considering what he was running.

The bass was sureal. It was SO ear-pleasing and deep, it was just ear candy. Those are the most wonderous sounding woofers I've ever heard.. perhaps not entirely accurate.. but incredible none-the-less. ID has won multiple award with they're stuff.
Im not one bit suprised.

Image Dynamics is indeed a very respectable speaker manufacturer. They're known best for their compression horn drivers. The IDQ that graham pictured above is a very clean and accurate sub with great output capabilities. For the monster sub category look into the IDMAX.
http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/index.php

There are also a lot of other quality brands I would like to mention:

Arc Audio is best known for their nice line of amplifiers, but also make processors, and drivers of every assortment.
http://www.arcaudio.com/arc-05/index2.htm

Genesis is one of the finest amplifier producers in the world. They are a benchmark for other manufacturers to strive for. Many vehicles at the Iasca World Finals, including world champion cars, were powered by Genesis.
http://www.genesiscaraudio.net/amps/

Boston Acoustics produce arguably the best full line of performance speakers and subwoofers available. The Z series components and G5 subwoofers are great examples of this companies dedication to excellence.
http://www.bostonacoustics.com/car/default.aspx

Phoenix Gold has long since been known as a high-end amplifier manufacturer. They also make processors, coaxials, components, and a full line of accessories. IMHO they demonstrate a great value in high quality equipment and as such run PG for everything in my system aside from head unit.
http://www.phoenixgold.com/2004/index.htm

Other top notch car audio companies that may or may not have been listed previously include Audison, Alumapro, Brax, Dynaudio, Focal, Morel, Rainbow, Tru Technologies, Zapco, and many others I'm sure I've overlooked!

Lanzar... they're viberant series is quite low end.. but WAY!!!! better then MA audio..

I sure like MA's Kore 18... 10,000 watts eh? okie dokie. I dont have 10,000 watts in my car.... but I do have half that... I'd like to see it handle even a quarter of that. 2500 watts.. I'm not going to waste my money buying a Kore 18" just to see how long it'll last before it turns into a gigantic popcorn dish.. but it sure is tempting.

Go MA... yeah!
