I test drove a 1stgen GT today with my friend. The car had an EL prototypes chip in it and was running about 15psi. At the top of 2nd gear, it made a funny sound. I dont know what though. It sounded sorta like very quick, frequent, popping, sparks. Like "ts..ts..ts.ts..ts.ts" (with the popping sound). I guess sorta like when a spark jumps from a plug to the cyl head.

What's up with that?

Was there a loss of power when you heard that noise?

I don't think so. If it was I may not of noticed it because I believe the clutch was slipping. When floored it, everything would be going great and all of a sudden it would jump up from 4k to 5k and stay there while the car would accelerate. What I don't get is that the clutch has only 5k or so miles on it. I did notice that the clutch would start to grab at the top, not near the floor like my 626.

The clutch pedal may need adjusting. If you remove the cover by the pedals, you can adjust the clutch's pick up point.
