hi, i'm a pt member i decided to pop in here hope you all don't mind. ok, as far as the 1stgen turbos, i'm aware both cars have the same engine, turbo, tranny? what else are the same? eca? ecu? drive train? pls educated me thx
Basically everything is the same except the body. The floorplan and suspension on both cars dates back to the early-mid 80's 626, as does the engine. Ford designed a different top half of the unibody for the Probe, but it's a 626 underneath. There are probably many wiring differences and such, but mechanically its the same as far as I know.
If the Probe is heavier, then why did it do better in all the contemporary performance tests? Like Car and Driver got 7.0sec to 60mph in the MX6, but 6.7 in the Probe. Don't say aerodynamics because I think the CD is the same on both cars @ .32 even though the Probe appears sleeker.
Perhaps the extra wieght helped traction off the line.
