Well, for anybody who's ever wondered - MX6's (2nd Gen) don't like jumping roundabouts...... It tends to twist the chassis a bit and kind of rip out the underneath of the car at the front.

Anyway, I have a problem now which I am hoping somebody can advise me on. The car is basically a financial write-off due to the small dimples in the roof at the sides and top indicating the chassis is twisted. Insurance is not going to pay (for reasons I will not say but I'm sure you can imagine...). Hence I have 3/4 of a MX6 2nd Gen in good condition with which to dispose of for as much moolah as I can get.

Now, what I want to know is would it be better to get rid of this via a damaged auction or strip it for parts considering I can't do it myself and would possibly have to pay someone else to do it. I have no idea what the demand is for spare parts in these cars (I DO know that they are generally not cheap though!!) and I also have no idea what kind of price to expect at a damaged auction.

Damage to the car is mostly the underneath of the engine (ie sump, radiator, cross bar etc.) and panel damage to the bumper bar, front quarter panels and bonnet. Windscreen is cracked. Chasis is slightly tyisted as mentioned above. Interior is fine, 4 stock alloys are fine and pretty much all other panels and electrics are fine (including sunroof, power windows etc). It has done 135 000 km and prior to this, was in A1 condition. I'll post some pics when I can.

So, can anybody give any idea what kind of prices / demand I can expect for such a car? Any help would be MOST appreciated!!! As you can imagine killing your 6 isn't a nice thing to experience........!!

Well first of all tut tut.. Killing an mx6 like that ..tut tut, they are an endangered species.. :(

Now that that is over .. I suppose the best thing to do is phone a local wrecker and see what they offer you so you know “what price you are trying to beat” obviously if you part it out your self it could take a long time and you “may” make more.. but it is going to be a hassle ..
But having said that how much can you make, when you can get a better spec lower KM V6 from Japan for ~2 G and a trans for 800. (I would suggest the big money items) ..
And as to auctions and as every one knows you get cars cheap at auctions .. so I’d say you will get disappointed.. but that is not a very concrete answer just a guess. . beter get a price from a yard..

Depending on the colour I'd be interested in the rear bumper (mine is blue). Also depending on the condition of your steering wheel I'd be interested in that.

Also if the wheels are OK and there is decent rubber on them I'd consider a swap for mine (which are almost bald illegal)

I could also use the boot gas struts and the crankshaft position sensor

Theres some interest for ya! Sorry to hear about your ride man. Which roundabout was it?

Cheers,

Jase

Ah-yea, if you do decide to part it out your self MX6.com will certainly be a good avenue/customer for you.. I think your head lights alone would get you close to 800 bux to an American dude.. and things like that .. and if we are putting dibs on things, I would be interested in a couple of bits and bobs 2 as well like your boot lid.. but for your own benefit I would phone around some yards just so you know what target you would have to pass to be in front..

or maybe you could combine 2 cars and get back on track..
click me
or find out how much it go's for..

i got my mx6 from the auctions,
and i got my car for a bragen!

so i dont really think ya gonna be happy with that out come,
it will be sold cheap, and dont forget 10% of that will go to  john howard, an other 10-20% to the auction, depending on which one you take it to!, and the rest of the change is yours

If you got time money and effort i would suggest parting the car out piece by piece then just get the shell picked up for like $30 :)

The head lights $800 bucks is pretty good you would be lucky to get that for the whole car at the wreckers :)

Thanks guys.

I thought the auction option would give me a pretty low cash result. I haven't rung any wreckers yet cos I'm sure tey'll give me squat but I might as well try as you've suggested Mr MX6 to see what 'price to beat'. Also keen to see how much that damaged silver 6 goes for at auction. Is there anywhere you can view previous sales records of damaged cars?

AS for parts, well, it's the metallic maroon colour so the bumper won't match yours Jasonious!! Wheels/mags are ok (well four of them anyway) but I believe the tyres may all have a small bubble in the wall. God knows how each one got one!!!! Not happy either as they are only about 2 months old as well! The boot lid and gas struts are fine an as for the crankshaft position sensor, well, I assume that it's ok as only the bottom part of the engine would be screwed (ie sump etc.). As for headlights.....they got destroyed along with the bumper.....I wonder if he needs taillights though....Oh, and the airconditioner is gone too cos I picked that up off the road!!!

And to satisfy your interest Jasonius, it's one of the roundabouts on Landers Rd, Sheidow Park. You'll see it if you go there, they've already reconcreted where I hit it. Have a look at the gauge marks in the road about ten metres past the roundabout where I landed...... I would've loved to see it if it wasn't me doing it!!!!!

PS to Mr MX6

A better spec lower km MX6 from Japan for ~ 2G ??? How do you go about getting something like that? That could be a decent option considering I now have a LOT of spare parts.......

Just derailing here (and hopefully not over a roundabout  ). I'm looking for new boot gas struts for my MX - have you had much luck sourcing them here in Adelaide? I'd be interested in hearing how you got on.

I'm also really interested in hearing about anyone here in SA who knows of Mazda-sympathetic mechanics who know what the hell they're doing with an MX (2nd gen). I've had one recommendation for Mazdas in general, but I'd be interested in hearing what you've experienced.

Cheers,
AnnMarie
