Unfortunately, the biggest con for you is going to be insurance cost. Sad but true. If your parents will be paying for insurance, then you are alllll set })

Yes and no.

Sure I am getting raped being at $240/month cdn. for my 94 MX-6 LS V6 Mystere 140km, however my insurance was actually more expensive on my 1991 Escort GT that had 220km on it. (then again a stock scort GT runs higher 15's stock, so it was slightly quicker than the stock V6)

IMO Pros and Cons

Pro:

The v6 and 4 banger both have great potential.
Torque is good.
Owning a luxury sports car is always a plus.
Interior design is great.
Exterior styling is great.
Suspension is great for stock.
Tranny holds good Ive heard.

Cons:

You may find the I4 underpowered stock.(has great potential though)
Ive heard from many, many people that the KL03 wont last much past 200,000kms. Sure the KLZE is a sweet swap, but it sucks that the hassle must take place(i dont know why they just didnt use the ZE in North America)
Apparently alot of things like to break in MX-6's. Thank god I havent experience anything yet!

Any 5 speed car is fine. Beware of the automatics, especially in the 94-97 4-cylinder cars. The automatic in the 93 4 cylinder and all V-6s is slightly better, but still fairly weak.

The engines are very strong. The FS (4 cylinder) has been around since the early 80s and is pretty strong. The V-6 is the favored engine since it's obviously more powerful and considerably smoother. But the KL (V-6) can easily last over 200,000kms. I sold my 95 with 144K miles (about 230,000kms) and it was still very quiet, powerful, and smooth.

A 95 LS with 5 speed is the best way to go if you can find one. It is still OBDI so you can read the check engine light codes when your O2 sensors start going out. Also, it gets past the 93-94 issues (distributor, rear calipers).

The FS series (4cyl) is still found in the Protege today. It runs just as well as any Japanese motor is expected to. The KL series (v6) is just flat out a TANK. Decent base power and super smooth all the way up to its fuel cut at 7500rpms! A friend of mine has had is 6 for quite a while and its around 145k miles on it. Honestly, he drives the sh*t out of it....always around the redline every day on his 60 mile roundtrip drive to school. Granted, he takes very good care and is on top of maintanance. If either engine is maintained both can last a long time. Try to haggle the price a good deal because of the high milage.
