problem is there's not many active owners of the older 87 and older 626's. but thats your best chance.

HAHA, you actually answered a question over there for me earlier. I can't seem to log back on to that site so I decided to try this one. Do you have any links to your rides, I'd like to check them out. My first project is probably going to be a cone filter, but I'm not sure the best way to go about it on this car. Is there some sort of adapter I need to get to attach one? I haven't pulled the air box apart and checked it out, I was just told it wasn't a direct fit type of situation. Know any links to any good information, I can't search over there because they won't allow a search for numbers only or words under four characters. So searching for 626 gt is not allowed.mazda626.net

I own an 84 sedan where I installed the running gear from an 86 model japanese version of the car. I am pretty sure that you guys in North America got the multipoint fuel injected version, which means I cant really help you with anything do with the ECU and AFM....as far as the kerb weight goes, mine tips the scales at 1080kg...about 100-150kg lighter than a 1g depending on trim.Yo!!! I just acquired a decent 1986 626 gt with a 2.0 turbo engine. I'm loving it other than some small glitches keeping me out of the driver seat. Where can I learn more about this car. The 626 specific forums aren't a whole lot of help. This one seems to have a little life left in it. Any good links would be appreciated. This is such a cool little car, and it sure seems that the 120hp rating was a conservative one. What's the curb weight on this thing? Anyone do a decent build on one of these? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
THANKS!!Here's how to get around the search problem on 626.net: go to Google, advanced search, and specify the 626.net site as the domain name in a restricted search (copy and paste the 626.net address into the bottom line in Google advanced search). Then you get around the restriction on number of letters.
That's very similar to what is in mine. (as you can tell by the pics I posted)I own an 84 sedan where I installed the running gear from an 86 model japanese version of the car. This is what my engine bay looks like :

mine is central fuel injection, the engine is a bit tired and is coming out soon (cough) to be replaced with a turbo FE3.
Thanks for the info, It was originally silver. I can tell by what was not painted in the engine bay, sad thing is it probably looked great that color and I doubt it was worse looking than what it got. Oh well it looks kinda tough, in a mad max way. The guy who did the more recent work to it must've been very inexperienced or a lunatic.Ahh, I can tell by the picture yours is the multi point version (different intake manifold and different air box) with the vane type air flow meter.
Hard to say why the US got that version, when other places got the same one as mine...I dont know what they got in Europe.
I know that the central fuel injection (like mine) was available on GCs in Japan back when it was released in 1983, the turbo option was available (non intercooled) I think in 84.
Here in Australia we didnt get the turbo version until the GC II in 1985, ours was non intercooled also.
Maybe Mazda made the Multipoint one specifically for the US market purely due to california emission regulations.
as for what modifications you can do....probably an intercooler would be a good start.
I dont know how much boost increase you could do without running out of fuel, I guess you could lift it a few psi and see, get a wideband first. Other members who have worked on this version of the motor may know more.
good to see another coupe running around, I miss mine (I know they didnt come in black, what colour was it originally ?)
I'd absolutely love to get rid of this honkin' air box. How's the best way of going about that, I know I'd have to relocate the one sensor that's built into it, but what else would I have to do? I've been checking out intercoolers and imagining good setups for this thing, that'll be down the road a bit. I'm in need of an exhaust first, the stock setup has holes in the down pipe. I'm thinking of a 2.5 d.p. and maybe just dumping it under the car, I doubt it'd be any louder than it is now. Maybe squeezing a muffler in there and going side exit, no fart cannon will make it onto a car of mine. Also, mine's equipped with the electronic adjustable suspension. What traditional shocks could I use to replace these things?Welcome to the gc information hunt. you have a couple of options for this car if you wish to keep the engine thats in place. standalone or vaf hac is in order. there is no chip available for your ecu so i would start with what you mentioned above. do a cone filter and get rid of the airbox, get a boost gauge, and most importantly get a front mount intercooler of anykind. i just started helping my buddy with his so i'll keep you updated.
normal GC sedan ones will fit.....you used to be able to get konis for these cars (that's what I have ) but I bought them many years ago. I dont think theyre available any more, but really any shock suitable for the sedan (non AAS type) will fit in the coupe. Also, mine's equipped with the electronic adjustable suspension. What traditional shocks could I use to replace these things?
