well, i pulled into a gas station with my car running fine, nothing wrong with it or unusual. i come back out, try to start it, and nothing happens. no clicking, no sound of it trying to turn over.. nothing at all. Then i notice i can shift into gear without me even pushing the clutch in...

what happened?

your clutch slave cylinder may have "gone".... (piston in it finally creates no pressure)...... That sounds about what would happen...... it never released the clutch, so the car won't start without the clutch released.... or vice versa.....

could also be (as was the case in my 240sx), the switch behind the clutch pedal that must be depressed for the car to start, may be bad.... it could be several things....

for some reason that doesn't sound right. Normally they click or spin but not throw out. They don't just die. Sounds more like a switch issue to me. The clutch has in there. The wire is a large gauge so don't use a paper clip or anything to test.

Well, good to know you got it started. I only posted to say that for the most part you can shift an MTX w/out using to clutch while the car is turned off. No spinning gears means it's all open I guess. All 3 of my Mazdas I have owned have been this way.
