hey which oil filters do you guys use. i went down to autobahn and picked up the only oil filter they had for the f2 engine. its a Ryco z436, but its frickin tiny! its 6.5 cm wide and 6.5 cm long. the one on the car atm is much longer although i cant get to it to measure it atm. it even says on the packet for MX-6 2.2L so it should be the right one.....but does size matter? what brands do you guys use?

theres both the smaller one and larger one, both have same ring size tho. so both work, but smaller one is more expensive, like triple price, plus its smaller, they just target those that don't notice! :p

I've found that supercheap & repco catalogues list the smaller z436, but some other places like kmart (performance auto specialists I know :p) list the larger Z56B. and from memory the stock mazda one is the same size as the Z56B. not sure what the go is there

so it doesnt really matter what i have. the one on the car atm is bigger than the z436, so i think its a cooper. its just the surface area of the filter thats going to affect how much oil can flow through right? just as long as the ryco one is decent im ok with that, dont care about the size.

i went to bursons, asked for a filter for an mx6.they bought out the small one. which seemed suss so i asked them, and hes like oh tahts the 56b or watever it is. so he brought that up, and they screw up the same.
the diff was like $30 to $10

Sure is - If you use one too large your will loose oil pressure

Take a look at the 308-304 oil filters form the holdens, 905 of the carby models used a very large filter - but using the EFI filter on them bumpped oil pressure up. Can't use it the other way but - has been done and kill quite a few 304 EFI Vn's in the early days

oh yeah something I forgot the Cooper's filters are proberly 98% just like the factory one's Plus considering cost and the fact that all new Mazda filters are now coming from thailand. It's proberly coming out of the same factory. But do note mazda actually only carry a few filters on the shelf as most will cover more then one model.

Smaller filter good. large filter bad.

thats the long and the short of it.
what do you mean. oviously bigger filter means more filtering. and if you think that you'll lose oil pressure. i assume that it will only be a tiny drop. which you would need of notice.

i use a mitsubishi oil filter for about 15 dollars

hmm i think some bigger ones can have less pleats, so although it looks bigger, the surface area of the filter is the same (or even less) as smaller looking filters with more pleats although i dont know in this case which is why im asking

I had the smaller one.....no problems.
I've been using the larger one for the last year or so........no problems either.
Conclusion - either one works fine, theyre both recommended for the F2T so meh.
