so my mx6 has a 6 wire crank angle sensor

my new ecu just has a 2 wire input for this sensor.

which two wires should i use? any way to find this out?

and an easier, not technical question: when someone says that the firing order of an engine is, for example, 2-4-3-1, how do you know which piston is '1' and which is '2' etc? the old V8s had it stamped on the valley cover. I cant seem to find any stamps on my mx6.

feel free to tell me if i'm asking stupid questions... but you learn as you go dont you?

thank guys, your awesome

Tell us the year and make of the engine, and we can figure out what sensor youre using and if it should be changed for a different one.

And for the cylinder numbers, if its on an i4, i5, etc. cylinder #1 is always at the front of the engine, and works up from there in chronological order. Either where the timing belt or chain is.

For V style engines, the same rule applies. One cylinder head will set a little further towards the front of the engine than the other, thats where #1 is. The numbers are set up like this:

8 7
6 5
4 3
2 1
Typical V8

4 8
3 7
2 6
1 5
Ford V8

righto thanx for that.

its a F2T engine, from 1991. The distributor is no longer being used, so any wires relating to its operation arent needed.

any info appreciated, thanks a lot.
