Ok, my head is coming off soon due to headgasket and ive also been losing oil for quite a while. May be valve stem seals but more likely its the rings. As the head is coming off, i was thinking off getting new rings whacked in while i was at it just to make sure. Top end should be easy enuf and for the bottom, taking off the sump and getting in thru there.

Any tips, hints or opinions???

Thanks

worth it if you can do it yourself.
you would be loosing oil from blow by, thru the pcv.
put in a oil catch can

Big blow by being caused by worn rings too, so a catch can is only really a stop gap solution.

Dont know how easy it is to do rings while the engine is still in the car, maybe find some one to price it up. Probably wouldnt cost that much to get the bottom assembled.

I did the rings while the motor was in...not that hard however if you need to bore it out then your back to square one were you need to have the block out.
