Pinch Bolt Size?

1257 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  whitenoyz
Does anyone know what is the size (diameter and length) of the pinch bolt that holds the ball joint in the steering knuckle of a 93 MX6? I am giving the parts to my mechanic to replace the axle and am assuming the original bolt might not make it out alive.

(When replacing the control arm on the other side, my ex-mechanic used the wrong size bolt, and the ball joint quickly came loose in the knuckle, so I want to be sure he uses the same size as the original.)

Thanks.

If I had to take a guess, I would think it's a M10 x 1.25 bolt roughly 40 mm long. If I have time tomorrow, I'll take a closer look, but that should be fairly close, IMO.
Thanks for the info. Since the bolt only costs about $4 from the dealer, I think I'll get it there--even if it is a bit out of the way--and be sure I have one that is an exact fit.

Chris
are you talking about the crown nut that screws upwards?
