My power steering has been slowly deteriorating and has gotten pretty bad lately. At normal cornering the power steering will stutter. Stuttering meaning becoming dead, then letting up which jerks the car, over and over. The fluid is a reddish brown, pretty dark. Does changing the fluid help this problem? Possibly the pump is going? If its the fluid whats the best way to change it.

Thanks,
Ryan

Problem solved

Problem solved. I decided to drain the fluid with a turkey baster, running the car and turning the wheel each time I got to the bottom of the resevoir. About halfway into the fluid it started becoming complete foam. I got as much out as I could then filled it back up with Valvoline Synthetic power steering fluid. The steering is more responsive than when I got the car. There is about 1/2" of play in the wheel now. Smooth as shite too. Just thought I'd post my explanation.
