There isn't much room to work with on the passanger side to be able to pull the engine without the tranny. Since you would have to seperate the two and move the engine out of the tranny enough to clear the flywheel and clutch. You could work at seperating the two the with the the passanger side axle out and move the trans some to the drivers side, you'd have to remove the mounts and support it but you might not have to fully drain the trans or the clutch, plus getting the pass. axle out is easy, the drivers is the tough one. Or you could try seperating the two and seeing if there is room to rotate the engine while moving it away from the trans to get it out and clear. The hardest part though will be if you get it out, lining it all back up to get the bolts in. I have wondered this myself as i pulled the whole thing as a unit when I did mine. I don't know if it can be done but I would suspect that it is worth a try since if it doesn't work you can just do all the same work as you would to drop the tranny and get the engine out. I unbolted my A/C and P/S pump and supported those off the radiator support, which saved having to deal with draining and refilling those systems. I bet you have already figured that out though with the number of times you have had to remove the engine, good luck.
