Question on B-Series transmission compatibility

2321 Views 22 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Mazda_MX6_Turbo
I know the b2200 trans bolts up, no problem.

How about the b2000 trans?

I have both a 1980-1985 trans or 1986-1993 b2000 trans available to me, but need to know if either one will work.

This is in the forced induction section because it'll be going on an F2T.

Thanks guys.

PS, paging Fredio to the thread

Found it, delete me.
The Turbo II trans is tougher than a B2000. Just different bell housing and ratio's

I'd like to use a B2000 trans with my mx6 flywheel (since i have a 500$ bully clutch on it) but its a bit too big and the starter wouldn't fit.
Anyone done this ?
I thought the F2T flywheel was fine for use with the b2000/b2200 trans? Oh joy, more junk to buy.
fredio used a f2t flywheel with a b2200 (rx7 gears i think) trans. you just have to grind a little off the flywheel's outside and the bellhousing's inside.
Is there an alternative to grinding? Will the FE flywheel fit the F2T crank?
still want this thread deleted? :p
my box is R type, not the small one. The spline was correct for the R box on the f2t/rx7t clutch. Just grinding a little is a gross under statement. You have to fit the smaller ring gear to the bigger fly and machine the pressure plate and flywheel and bell housing. Lotsa work/cost.

Just fit the small fly and clutch and hope for the best.

And yes larken, I've done it and with your engineering skills, I'm certain you could too :)

If you are using the small box you'll need a custom disk with the smaller spline type in it as well.

b2200 box != b2200 box

the 86 - 93 is the one you want, and it will probably be non R typed.

Alright, so I'm off to get the box out of the 86 truck I found.

So, if I read correctly, I'll be okay using the FE flywheel/clutch, or alternatively, an F2 flywheel/clutch?

I'll probably snag the mounts off of the FE, and add some brackets to the truck.

Later, the truck'll get an FE3, but for now that would kill our $1000 budget, so F2T it shall be.
Got the trans, forgot the flywheel, doh.

Guess I'll go back for it next weekend.

Good news is the trans is about an inch longer than the old Datsun trans was, so it should fit in okay.
So I take it your sticking this combo in a Datsun? What year/model? Im sure Zach will love this thread!

Post up some pictures for us along the build, Jesse!

If you're swapping anything into a datsun, it better be an L series engine, 20, 24-28. Get rid of that crappy A15/16 engine ;)

Pfft. L24-28 is a bit too long, it had an L16 to begin with.

The truck is being built for this competition - SDREV Grand Challenge

Since we have a $1000 budget, and I have F2Ts literally laying around, it just makes sense.

I'll be updating the build on a regular basis here: Team Heavy Hitters - Project WTF Truck - SDREV - San Diego Regional Enthusiast Vehicles

Anybody have a cheapo F2 clutch for sale? It only needs to last six races
only $1k? too bad, a built L20 would be very very nice.

Once it's set up for the F2T, an FE3 will make a nice replacement.

Spent so much time wirebrushing the frame last weekend, my shoulders still hurt.
by hand or machine? By hand would suck. I know how much rust those datsuns collect

I'm actually thinking of picking up another datsun myself...810 Wagon ;)

Mostly hand :(

I didn't have a die grinder with me, and using a wire wheel in a drill is just too slow. Thankfully I found a flapper wheel in my car, threw it on my angle grinder and saved a bunch of time that way.

This weekend we'll finish getting the radiator support off, then hopefully fitting up the engine/trans. The trans looks like it'll bolt up to the stock mount, oddly enough, so long as it's pushed forward about an inch. This is fine, since the engine can go forward a bit and save a bit of chopping of the firewall.

As long as the rad/fan fit, we're good to go, as I can always mount the intercooler on the bottom and make a scoop/diverter plate for it.

Then it's new intake manifold time, wiring, and driveshaft, all while we mount the fuel cell, re-run the lines, straighten the bodywork, add new brakes, fluids, and paint. Wish us luck, we've got roughly seven months left.

I'm actually pondering entering the MX6 I bought from Rami as well.
I would actually build up an 810 for your event. You already have a great power plant in the L24, you have Z suspension as well ;)

Some low cost suspension upgrades, as well as swapping in a turbo motor/tranny and you'll be good to go. But good luck on getting that Datsun truck going. :D
