I haven't done my homework, so I dunno much about the MX-3. But if I had to take a guess...not knowing anything about the MX-3's engine, I would say its lighter than the MX-6, so he might take ya.

Emilio,

The V6 in the MX3 is a 1.8L version of the 2.5L V6 in your car. It only produces about 130HP versus your 164HP (assuming both are stock.)

If memory serves, the V6 MX3 is a low 8-sec 0-60 car versus mid 7-sec for the MX6. You should take him assuming all else is about equal.

Yes, I just checked my October 1991 Motor Trend in which they road tested a Mazda MX6 GS.

0-60: 8.3-sec
1/4-mile: [email protected]

[email protected], [email protected]

Bore x stroke: 2.95 x 2.74 (inches). Compare to the 2.5L bore x stroke of 3.30 x 2.92.

The MX6 is nearly a 3/4s of a second quicker in the 1/4 and a good 1/2-sec faster to 60.

You should win, his V6 is smaller with less horsepower. Just practice more driving and you should see him in your rear view without a problem.

I almost bought a '93 MX-3 back in '94...

You should take him without much problem. I ended up buying a new '94 CIVIC EX 5spd back in '94, rather than the left-over '93 MX-3, because the Civic EX (127HP) was just as fast as the MX-3 (130HP), and it was about $1,000 cheaper. Back around '96 I ended up racing an MX-3 in my Civic EX going down the freeway and kept up with him just fine.
