I had a Whistler radar detector before my car got broken into... it worked for me! When driving from Humboldt to Sacramento or visa-versa there are alot of curvy fun roads, and I-5 is just one big flat strip.

I detected cops around corners and miles down a straight road. The only time I got a ticket with it was at the very top of a hill when a cop was comming from the other direction... nothing to reflect off of in the sky, so the detector didn't see him. I was going as fast as the other cars on the road, but I was in the passing lane so I got fucked.

I've never seen laser show up on my detector... and I'm sure glad.

I'm in the market for a new one so I've been looking at the above site. Very informative

But one thing thats better than a radar detector is a police radio scanner!

Yeah, I've thought about getting one of those. Most places now cops use laser instead of radar because once you detect laser it's too late. I have mine, but I don't speed anymore so it's more just for fun. Plus, if it starts going off you can switch to your best behavior, even if you aren't speeding.

Heres, the thing with radar detectors...yea, when you hear it go off, it means that the cop is already clocking you or someone else (if there are other cars in front of you...the cop will most likely be checking them in advance)...so in that way, they can help you. Also, (I am an MP in the Reserves, so I can attest to this) in most cases, when a cop gets your speed, and you then see him or hear your detector go off, and you proceed to SLOW DOWN, they will let you go scott free. Like I said, in most cases. If police pulled over every speeder that they came across, they would go crazy and wouldnt have any time for responding to other calls. It depends a great deal on the mood of the officer(no doubt) and wether or not his prime purpose is to catch us lead foots.

Don't waste money on radar fuzzers or buster or the like. In most states, they are outlawed and the FCC has banned them. They are extremeley eratic at best, and like said before, fines are horrible!

Also, a lot more cops are using radar detector-detectors...so they can tell if you are using one. No word on wether they are harder on vehicles who they know are trying to slip through the system or not, just a random fact I guess.

As far as which radar detector to get, I would reccomend the Bel Vector 985 or 995. They are the best bang for your buck and have done very well in different tests and reviews. They do not quite meet the high end escorts or the valentine in performance, but they are your most cost-worthy unit, unless you have more money to blow. #1 thing to remember: don't get a detector and expect it to instantly make you invincible to police...you will not be...ever!:D

Radar/Laser Jammer

instead of wasting all that dough on something simple, get one of those 300-400 radar jammer's from the mag or look on internet.. they are all supposively illegal, but why do they sell them? I bought one a year ago and I fly on SR 71 NORTH like 85MPH. I had my brother test it out (which he is a deputy) and it fucked his readings up. he got readings of 500-700MPH. on 3 attempts. so that is your best bet dood.

I got a Beltronics RX65 i believe. The thing works charms. Ive read a state trooper from about a mile-mile and a half away. It reads any cop that got his/her radar on. But regardless of the kind of radar detector you got it still wont catch all cops, so you still got to drive resonably

Again, if you get caught with one of those fines are 4 digit fines, and you can lose your licence. In no state are they legal. there is a simple solution. Dont speed excesivly and dont speed on main roads. Know the area you are speeding in and dont go off doing like 50 in a 30. It's stupid and dangerous

Not really. The only thing that can detect another detector is another detector, and thats through a false reading. Police can just tell you're using one by how you hit your brakes when you get splashed with radar.

uh thats wrong they are only illegal in washington d.c. and virginia

does the police use laser speed readers? if so then the detector won't detect it untill the cop as got ur speed!!! he fires the thing on u and boom gets ur speed and the detector warns u!!
this is also wrong due to the fact of the radar detectors have a minimum range of 3 miles at least. and they pic up signals before they pop you i have had mine go off before and then the dude like a mile down the road was pulled over.

I have played around with a few radar detectors and I have found that the only one that works well enough to depend on it and not just pray that it'll work would be the escort. Yeah it's close to 300 bucks but it's worth every penny. I bought a few radars and returned alot of radars. The escort is IMO the only one worth buying
dude those suck balls the valentine v1 is the best on the market proven fact.

theres the link see for yoourselfs.

and just for the record no i dont have a v1 and no i dont have a radar detector anymore but i also only speed on the eway just cuz its hard not to do so. thi sis just my 2 pennies so if you dont like it whatever.

*NewsFlash* - this just came in.....

if you don't drive like a [fizzle]ing retard then you will keep your licence
thats cool how you speak to the guy. I have gotten 4 speeding tickets in the past 2 years...guess that means i'm a retard too...even tho all of those speeding tickets were BS.

I bought a Whistler ($90), and its saved me one ticket. Honestly, as long its able to detect pulsing radar and Ka band radar, you dont need something incredibly expensive (ie $300+). If youre doing 120 mph on the highway and you fly past a cop who isnt using radar, which most of them dont use radar anyway, youre going to get nailed regardless. THats what im most paranoid about and its almost happened to me.

A radar detector is just and added measure to track the presence of cops, its not a failsafe by a long shot

How is it that All these people get "BS" Tickets every time you turn around, yet in the 6.5 years I've been driving, The only tickets I've ever gotten were two seatbelts- Which weren't "BS".
Edit: I'm not saying I don't speed- I most certainly do.. Most of it is luck, and a little of knowing when and where I can do 10-15 over and still be good. Any ticket I would be issued, I would have to assume would be deserved and not BS.

It's because they're immature children who still aren't able to admit thier mistakes. They dont just hand out speeding tickets for no reason...

I speed too. A lot more than I should. Normally I drive at least 15 over, if not more. I've been lucky as to not get pulled over in the past few years.

I've gotten 3 speeding tickets before in a 2-year period, and I suppose 1 I could say was a little unfair, but I can admit the fact that "Hey. I messed up and was speeding" I'm not going to be a baby and whine "OH what BS! WTF did I get a ticket for!?" You dont want to get a ticket kids? DONT SPEED. otherwise, thats a risk you have to be willing to take.

i got a ticket once for hitting boost. cop said he knew i was speeding but couldnt clock me. so he gives me an unsafe lane change ticket.

now if you ask me, that is BS. I was not making an unsafe lane change, the end. he tried to tell me i was weaving  there were no fuckin cars on the road! what a clown.

it's all about money dude, the end. in all reality, "speeding" 10-15 over isnt "unsafe." but dont think for a second cops and the govt arent banking hard off it. i just went to court last week and plead an unsafe vehicle instead of speeding to get less points taken off my license. was my vehicle unsafe? nope. i plead to a false offense just so they could pocket some money

You can't generalize. It would depends on the time, place, weather conditions, driver, etc...

In certain situations, 10 UNDER the limit could be unsafe. And 10-15 over is less safe than the limit. The faster you're going, the less time you have to stop, and the slower your reaction time will be.

Sure, but I dont see why you're complaining. You got a lesser fine, and less points on your record.

right. in the cases i have been speeding, it was not unsafe. the end.

than what? the cop had no proof i was speeding, and i didn't do an unsafe lane change like he issued me a ticket for. he knew the speeding wouldnt hold up so he slaps me with a bogus ticket
