Jesus man,
That's a sobering list. I'd really hate to put one of those together. I stopped driving my Camaro due to it being too expensive to drive. (6 MPG) But I don't think my Probe has fared well as far as repairs go.

If it makes you feel any better...

I've had my car for almost 1 month and I'm unp to about $300 on stuff like.. water pump, plugs, oil change, PCV, airfilter, and other stuff just to make it pretty (lights and interior stuff).

I'm hoping nothing goes wrong on it.

And I love it...

holy sh!t buddy:

Once: 110,000 Rear pads $135.80
Twice: 190,000 Rear brake pads $162.56

i was quoted in carquest around 150,00 for rear pads AND Rotors.
that right axle $232...is that with labour or just parts? i paid mine 130 plus tax, and has lifetime warranty :smokin:

you did get ripped off for some of the stuff. is ur car a 5spd? did you change ur clutch yet? i just did mine, and cost me just over 600 WITH labour...and its an original Mazda clutch from Mazda dealership :smokin: if you, or anyone has to do a clutch and decides on stock, just buy one in states, i paid 145 us for mine (pressure plate, disk, t/u bearing, pilot bearing). The same clutch is 600 cnd PLUS tax in canada (at least in Windsor Mazda).
so, there you go...hope i save you some money :)

Completely agree ... have paid too much for some of the work, but that's what happens when you don't a) have time to do it yourself b) or the skill c) or know enough to question them

As regards the spark plugs -- the dealer wanted to change them yesterday for $90 CDN while they were doing the valve cover gaskets.

Having just done the distributor cap + rotor myself, I wasn't going to get suckered into that.

The car is a 5sp with original clutch, and because it was driven by my sister at a different period than me, she didn't check the receipts I had kept, and got some of the stuff done again.

Some of the work on there are guesses; where I don't have the original receipts, so I'm not sure what work actually was done. However, the $ values are correct, and all include the labour charges except the ones that say "me" next to them.

This car was mostly serviced at dealers and nation-brand service shops. Is it any surprise they try and make as much money as they can? Remember you might be car-savvy, but the majority of the population is blind to what goes on underneath their hood. You should see what my relatives, friends, take their car's in for.

RE: $250 CDN for the gaskets -- wow you got a good deal. I was getting quotes anywhere from $400 to $900, and I've seen posts here where people have paid about $400 US, so I thought I was getting it for a decent price.

For the distributor, (which actually did not turn out to be faulty), I got quoted $480 for an aftermarket to $1200 CDN (for a Probe one from Ford).

I wonder before the advent of the internet, if it was really a) easy to find info about a problem with your car, or b) find out accurate pricing. Myself, just discovered MX6.com last year...

Knowledge certainly is power.

wow it amazes me how much they charge for some services. i just changes all my pads and rotors for $80 and put on new spark plugs, wires, rotor, and distributor cap for $90 and that was a 15 minute job.

i cant believe they would try to charge you $100 to change ur plugs when they already had ur vc off!! they already had the spark plugs out.... new spark plugs cost $10 thats something my mechanic would have done for free without even telling me. all my prices are in US dollars

was $250 for both vcg or just the front?? if it was both thats a great price but if its just the front thats a little high. thats a job i could probally do for $30 in a half hour if its just the front.
