i switched from regular 10w30 to synthetic (mobil 1) 5w30 about a month ago, and ive noticed that startups in the morning are pretty "rough." the engine is making all sorts of noise - not a faint tick tick like id heard from the HLAs, but more of a clunking type of sound. doesnt happen when restarting to goto lunch, aftert sitting for 4 hours.

im in NJ, so its just started to get cold, but the noise wasnt like this before i switched oil.

had an oil leak last week too - i had to pu 4 quarts in to drive 120 miles home. the oil pressure sensor switch broke, which was a pain in the ass to replace... filled it up 2 days ago, and havent seen a drop on the ground yet.

anyone else notice different engine noise when switching oil?

1995 mx6, v6 - 47k miles

I was gonna say swich to 5w30 but you already did....damn it only has 47K on it? damn....

I'm not an expert by any means, but here's something to consider:

My car was 'shuddering' at morning startup occasionally. Turns out the wires were old and had built up too much resistance causing the plugs to misfire. It's most noticible on damp days, but only on the 'first' start of the day, it goes away after a few minutes. Check your wires if you haven't already.

Sounds like the friction gear spring (FGS) of the timing belt tensioner (TBT). Now when you say it runs rough, do you mean the car is stumbling, missing, hesitating, or is it just noisy?

I just changed the filter on my intake n mine as soon as i changed it started rough in the morning n i dont know y then its fine later but i also changed the oil...sry
