atx or mtx? my mtx would cruise 75 on the highway just over 3K rpms
My mtx 91 Probe is at 3k around 75.... my 89 mtx mx6 is at 3k around 65....
mtx...i get erie when it gets that high haha dont wanna F*ck nothing up lol:) exp. at a cruise
120km/h (75Mph) = 3250 MTX 5th.

Yeah I think its high, but what can you do about it.

If you were willing to put a G-type box in the car, you could use the gearset out of the supercharged diesel G-type box, then it might be more along the lines of 2800rpm.
What are the gear ratios on the supercharged diesel g-type box?
80 mph = 3300rpm for me. Thats my cruising speed.
When going 100 kph I'm pulling around 2500 rpm or so. 120 kph and I get 3000. MTX, crusing in 5th.
What are the gear ratios on the supercharged diesel g-type box?
1st is 3.307 NA diesel 3.307
2nd is 1.833 NA diesel 1.833
3rd is 1.161 NA diesel 1.233
4th is 0.861 NA diesel 0.914
5th is 0.680 NA diesel 0.755

with a 4.105 final NA diesel 3.85

I'll edit this with the rest when I dig out the manual for it....done, see above, note that that NA diesel ratios are the same the SOHC F8 petrol engined car.

There is another option.....find the 1G probe V6 manual box and pull the final gears out of it, theyre 3.85 instead of 4.105, that'd mean a drop to about 3k rpms at 120kmh

But I gather theyre a rare as hens teeth.....we never got them here in Oz, but i'd be in the market for the bits if anyone has them lying around......

idk maybe its just me but i take my engine to 5300-5600 at every shift:) and ill cruise highway in 4th even 3rd so i have the torque to go around idiots who dont know how to drive in Atlanta. if you have never been to Atlanta, GA we collectively think that the speed limit is a minimum:tup: there is not a day goes by when 80-120mph is not seen here

and to those going to dog me for riding my engine/tranny that hard whatever its lasted 30,000+ miles of me driving it that way and 171,000 miles total. i cant remember whose sig says it but build it, break it , rebuild it:)
just came back from school on the freeway and 60 mph for my 91 6gt is 2400 even...yours seems a little high i guess
~3200 rpm = 75mph
~2100 rpm = 60mph for me.
all this sounds normal to me, top of 4th gear is like ~100-110mph.

edit: 5k in 5th gear is like 130mph.
edit2: this is a very vauge guess from not having driven my car in a while.

Whats your rim and tire size? I believe that could affect the speedometer reading.

BTW my GT is around 75 mph at around 3K.
im running trhe stock rims on it...
Does sound a little high but remember the turbo cars have a high final drive gear ratio. I think I'm going to check mine just to see.
Dang it, must spread karma around more.

That's a very interesting, it should go in a faq..

I guess the question then is.. did the RF have a G or H type transmission?
Last I checked, the Kiwi's have a lock on the RF market... if the RF had an H-type, that'd be another option for the H5M owners..

Thats not quite right, that second column should be supercharged diesel (RF-CX), not F8. I commented that the RF-N G series ratios were the same as the F8 just in case anyone was looking for the gears as the F8 boxes might be easier to find. Also Reverse is 3.166 across the board on all G types AFAIK.

Unfortunately the diesel boxes are both G type, with a different bell as the starter motor sits on the other side of the engine at the bottom. but their gearset could still be used.
I checked mine on the way to work this morning and at 60 mph and in 5th gear, I'm pulling about 2600 rpm but if I left it in fourth it stayed around the 3000 rpm mark plus a little. Alot will depend on the terrain of the road plus as stated above tire size and trans type. Again all this is with a 88 mx6 turbo with a 5 spd and 17 inch wheels.
