That is right. The time has finally, finally come.

We will be making the server change this Monday morning at 9AM CST (GMT -5). Due to DNS changes, it will take at least an hour to do the changeover, but the site will be active the entire time.
I plan to disable new posting, but leave the site active for people to view it. It will be obvious when the new site is running. It is similar in appearance but entirely new. Please keep in mind that it is not possible to install additional features (like the garage) before the changeover, so all those features will be coming soon after the changeover.

Searching and PMs will remain active during the change, but keep in mind that new PMs (after the changeover begins) will not be transferred to the new site. Also, many of the counters will be reset, so dont be too suprised when your post count drop a bit.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reply.

For anyone interested in the history behind the change and an explanation of the delays, please read below.

See you at the new site!

We have gone through a lot to get here.
It became evident that the site needed an upgrade over a year ago after repeated attacks took the site down. We quickly realized that the modified source code of our bulletin board was the source of the security holes, so we removed all the special features of the site in order to keep it running. We then switched to a new server and spent an inordinate amount of time configuring it for security purposes (which didnt alway make running the site go very smoothly).
When the good people at Jelsoft released the 3.5 version of vBulletin (our board software) I started working on a custom style for it. Our current style is heavily modified and took a lot of work to create. The new style was no less work. But before I could complete it, Jelsoft announced the release of version 3.6 which includes a number of new features that will benefit us greatly. Unfortunately, 3.5 styles are not compatible with 3.6. So the previous work had to be scrapped. At the same time we were running into some limitations with our server configuration and decided to make an OS change from Debian Linux to RedHat Linux. We also decided to invest in a higher-end server that will increase the site's reliability, so we got a new server that is very similar to this one, but has a RAID1 and is running the new OS with cPanel (which will make our lives alot easier).
I got the new server just before they released vB 3.6. We got 3.6 running on the new server almost as soon as it was released and I have been working on the custom style ever since then. Well 3.6.1 was released just a couple of days ago, which is good because it is a very stable release and fixes hundreds of bugs.
And now the style is complete. So it is time to move.

oh and btw for the non techy people here RAID1 is a system where you have 2 harddrives the same exact size. One hardrive is a complete mirror of the other. These are great. if one drive goes down there is an exact duplicate hard drive that can be used.

Question- How much could possibly disapear? I just want to know if I should start copying old threads that may be lost? or is it just things liek post count? I noticed the "2005 Post your face" thread is missing.
No threads that are visible now will disappear, but all the counters have to be recalculated. Which means that post counts and karma will be recalculated. Karma will not change much unless it was added to or taken away from manually (only people who can do that are me and imagoon). But posts counts will decrease based on any threads that have been deleted. Since we prune most in the Lounge and they dont count toward postcount, then (hopefully) this will not result in too great of a difference to everyone's post count.
This recalculation is unavoidable, though. So no other way to deal with it.
