i guess the first question would be, do you smoke? i do, maybe a pack every 3 days.

and now this is my Beef
http://www.hfxnews.ca/index.cfm?sid=9767&sc=1

as of december 1st in my province of nova scotia, you will no longer be able to smoke in public. no indoor areas i can understand, i dont even like to smoke indoors, because when i smoke, i spit. (thats two bad habits i have among many)

but this debate has been going on for ever, "smokings bad for you, it kills" vs. "its our choice, we know what it does, we dont wanna stop". but now i can face a fine for having a puff outside! this is plain retarded. i feel that socitey is turning smokers into second class citizens. we cant go down the street with out seeing an AD of how bad it is, in canada, we can ever open a pack with out a gross image of someones teeth on it.

i was wondering what all your opinions are on smoking. also i understand the fact some people dont like being around smokers, or second hand smoke, i totally respect that, and will chip out my smoke, or go else wheres, but when i'm told i cant do it outside, give me a break.

Smokers are becoming a dying breed unfortunately (for you).

I was very happy when they got rid of indoor smoking around here. Nonetheless, it is only banned outside at restaurants and such. You can still presumably light one up and stroll down the street. Big deal, right?

thats what i've been told, if you smoke outside, its a fine. i heard it everywhere, but thats the only article i could find, becuase the whole cant smoke inside, or on patios, or public places is nothing new, i'm pretty sure you can only smoke on your on property effective dec 1st.

and smokers always were a dying breed, we are because what we do. but i'm quitting soon here anyways. i hate smoking, i just think the goverment is being retarded.

In MB, you're sort of allowed to smoke outside in public places, as long as it isn't within about 8 feet of doorways/entrances. Nobody is allowed to smoke inside anymore unless you're on an indian reserve.

I see that at least Guys here seem to be reasonalbly respectful when it comes to smoking around others but many people dont act that way. And at least half of smokers wish they never started, isnt it good that the properganda will help people that would start and regret it from starting at all? mainly kids under 18, that would other wise smoke cuz "I just wanted to see what it feels like" or "My friends were looking at me". Which is when most people start smoking.

Hopefully they ban smoking all together. It is disgusting, pointless and helping company's that specialize in getting generations to pick up the habit.

Why do people that smoke complain about oh I cant smoke is restaurants and bars. Maybe smokers need to think of the real problem. The initial cigarette you are complaining about not being allowed to light in public.

I don't feel one bit sorry for you. You people ruin nice cars, people dining, bar experiences, if you live with one we have to suck in the second hand smoke that is not filtered. Smokers ruin kids, houses apt's.

people that cant quit are either lazy or have no self control.

With all that said I smoked for 4 years, decided it was stupid and WHAM never lit up again. After seeing my grandfather and grandmother be on oxygen and have their lives taking away from them because of a damn stick full of tobacco you light and (hers the good part) induce smoke into your lungs YAY)

Do yourself a favor quit or try to quit and don't be in the group that complains about not being able to smoke in public.

Having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing section in a pool. It's not OK when other people have to smell it and breathe it in. I absolutely can't wait until they ban it in bars in Louisiana. I've grown up with smokers in my family so it doesn't bug me that much. What bugs me is going out for only 2 hours and not being able to wear the outfit again.

By the way, banning it outside I think is where it crosses the line. That's infringing upon rights way moreso than in private establishments.

thats my point exactly.

i just dont like it when people who dont smoke bother me about it. worst lady ever, was when i was waiting for a bus, she's like "excuse me, you know smoking kills, right?" and i say yes, as i take another drag, and give her the one eye cocked look, then she says "it'd be awesome if everybody in the world stoped smoking." at this point i realize the big fur jacket she is wearing, i look at her, and say " you know wearing fur is murder, and know what would be real awesome? If someone hunted you dont, murdered you, took your skin. then made a ugly jacket out of it, for some fat woman who cant mind her own effin business to wear!"

she got the point real quick.

Pretty soon smokers will be joining the group of mary jane users, paranoid, smoking in secrecy, buying there cancer sticks from the drug store like its a porno movie, bitchin at everyone tryin to defend that its not that bad..

I for one would love to see the cigarette manufactuers shut down, never to selll again.

Smoking does nothing for anyone, you might as well carry a bag of asbestos around and throw it in the air every half hour.

ROFL!!!! ahahaha were you waiting for the 62?? rofl

seriously though, our class had a debate about it today... I am "pro" banning the selling of cigarettes. I think the world would be better off, cuz it certainly doesn't do any good right now.

Im curious to see if the police/cigarette police will actually approach people and ticket them personally in front of a crowd or what. What are they gonna do, drive by with glue and throw it all over the smoker's outside a school...then have another car drive by and throw tickets on them?? rofl

I hope it works, but i doubt it will. I understand it is people's rights to smoke...but it is also my right to walk and go in public areas and not have to worry about stepping around a smoker, through a puddle because i dont want to inhale poison.

I do respect smokers who actually try not to spread their smoke. I have friends who will not light up if i am around because they know it bugs me. MY friend morgan is allergic to "smoking" he literally puffs right up and has a hard time breathing. His family doesn't smoke... so yea...

There will be a lot more cars that lose the title of "has never been smoked in" lol

The only thing i see wrong with that is her fur isnt hurting anyone. Its keeping her warm. Its well known that animals were hunted for there fur and people used them to keep warm.
hundreds of thousands of cows are killed each day for there skins and meat.
thousands of deer hunters go out every year to hunt deer, to kill and bring home, when theres grocery stores all over readily available with any food you can think of.
Whats the difference of wearing leather, compared to fur.

The only rights smokers have is the right to die. They dont have the right to take people with them.
Why do I have the feeling that sentence isn't yours?

I personnally have no problem with people being barred from smoking outdoors. I'm not saying it's right to impose that type of law, but I certainly don't mind it. Sure it's a contradiction and not all that fair but.....

Not that I don't agree people shouldn't be allowed to destroy their own lives, but I can't see the point in smoking tobacco. The only reason people have managed to give me is that it calms them down, but that's because you're addicted and you need the nicotine fix to calm you. At least pot/crack/heroin gets you high in one way or another. Some say pipes taste good, but whatever they smell good too so that's great for me.

I'm not too fond of breathing in cigarette smoke, but I barely notice it from people smoking outside. It doesn't bother me at all. I doubt it causes any real health risk to nonsmokers, or even discomfort. The only reason people complain, I think, is out of spite. People have to breath in car exhaust constantly, but no one complains. I suppose it would be a problem if you walked outside a store and there were like 15 people smoking up a big cloud.

well lets say you are walking down a downtown street, going past a bus stop. The bus stop has 3 people talking together having a cigarette each. You either A) walk through or close to them B) walk on the street watching your shoulder for cars/busses approaching.

now is smoking a valid complaint?? or is it out of spite?? :) that's my issue.

David

EDIT: if it was one smoker, im sure it wouldnt be so bad, but 3 yes.. and even though the toxins outside may not be that bad, the smell still gets to you...you still have your clothes smell like ass for a minute or two.

SMELL should be the least of your concerns. Cigarettes still contain many carcinogens that can be traced for years and years after the smell has gone. Why do you think so many people don't want to buy used cars from smokers? It's not because the car might smell, it's because the car won't increase your risk of cancer just from sitting on the seats.

Dave,

Around here, Bus Stops fall under ownership of the transit company, and they have had no smoking signs posted on them forever.

Do you think that stops any one?
