well, i am having a severe steering problem and i am wondering if it is more likely a pump issue, or my rack going...

most of the time, it's really hard to turn, but it is fluttery when i am driving, like i can wiggle it alot and it sdoesn't' move the car, adn sometimes when i'm driving the wheels will veer a little befor the steering wheel cattches up (not very safe). It makes a funny whirring noise when i turn the wheel all the way to lock...

help!

um, first the obvious. check your power steering fluid to see if it's low or empty. if it needs some, that should help when you turn the wheel at a stop. If you've got play in the steering (it takes couple inches of turning before the wheels move) could be something outta whack. someone else will know what to check.
the whirring noise is the power steering reaching the end of its "travel". not a good idea to keep it at the very end that much as that can wear out your pump quickly if you overdo it.
