Stock BPV all along

So the other day I was visiting the Racing section and was viewing Maffatto's race vs the 2nd gen klze mx6.

At some point I mentioned that he probably was not hold a constant 15psi since my car as well as 3 or 4 I've seen in the past wouldn't hold constant anything over 12psi. I had always thought this is b/c of the turbo not being able to keep that pressure up. This opinion was gathered after reading posts after searching here on mx6.com. BUT......

in the racing thread Defiler and a couple of others interjected that they had ran contstant 15psi fine on the stock ihi. This prodded me to try a spare BPV that I had bought about a year ago from Chino69. I remember that he threw it in with a turbo setup he sold and had mentioned that it held high boost great. So I decided to dust it off and put it on....Result as you might have guessed IT HOLDS!!! My stocker when set to 15psi used to go to 15 and slowly fall off to 11-12psi as mentioned I always accepted this as the turbo being too small. Even my tbrid now only would manage to hold 12-13 constant BUT NOW!! 16psi and not a drop less!! :):jump:

Sorry for making the post so long (maybe too many details) but just wanted to share this with anyone else that may have the misconception that certain members had spread that it is the turbo not able to keep the constant psi's. At least in my case it WAS the BPV

and thanks to everyone that led me to this step, car is a whole new beast, don't get me wrong it was quick even with the leaky BPV with the tbird now it's CRAZY!!

gotta love the tbird at higher boost man, friggen hybrid tubo is damn quick for what it is. Sounds so much cleaner then the IHI as well at higher boost I find. Next step = meth injection and 17-18psi!
hmm thats crazy lol, i had your same problem but i have aftermarket BOV, it is adjustable, and come to think of it its set to loose.. better tighten that shit up lol

Yes sir, definitely love it!! I really can't complain for the bang for the buck of the tbrid..car is an absolute beast at 16psi and as mx6gtboi says very likely I am going to do meth and run 17-18 psi and hope i don't snap the shaft and see how that MFer pulls!! And the exhaust note and intake sound are crazy sweet under boost(and out of boost too :) )
ill be installing my tbird shortly. What kind of mods are you running to hit 16 psi with the tbird?

A boost controller :D joking..
i've got lots of mods but i'm assuming you mean fuel wise since that's prolly the only thing that would really affect how much you can run on a tbird? if so i've got a 190 walbro and thats it..wideband shows low 11's at 16psi and egt is fine as well.
About the Stock BPV, my buddy has a BOV and the boost set to 10-15psi(experimenting with boost) on the stock turbo and it will never hold, it will hit the set boost as soon as he gets on it, then after he shifts it will hit like three psi. Sometimes it will hit full boost and then lose about 4-5psi. He has a brand new throttle body boost from the dealer. We have checked for leaks and everything is good. And we have changed back to the BPV. WTF?
well looks like im gonna be getting me a stage 2 clutch and a walboro 190 and im gonna be boosting the fuck out of this tbird!

That sounds like a wastegate leak and/or maybe cracks around the WG flapper

oh and Maffatto, I do have an upgraded clutch as well but I did that years and years ago even b4 I ever dreamed of tbrid lol and oddly enough it is rated for 298 ft/lbs of torque just where the tbird might max out(wipes the sweat off forehead).
yeah, raising the boost only to find that your clutch won't hold the tq is a terrible feeling. Esp when a decent one will cost you about as much as have in my engine and MS combined lol :sigh:

what clutch are you guys going with?
I'm using the STOCK clutch with the T-bird its holds.
The clutch kit I have is amazing and yet no one else has ever heard of them lol. Its C.A.P clutch and it's rated at 298 ft/lbs(30 something percent more claming force than stock yet the pedal feel is close to stcok just a bit more stiff and quicker engagement) and I've never had any complaints at all with it for the last 7 or 8 years that I've had it in the car and is holding just fine on the tbird at higer boost even though it's been used for so long  great company and great part would buy it again.

Oh and it's very affordable when I bought it 8 yeas ago it was $179 and if i remember seeing right just recently on their sight it's the same price today
Not to get too far off the subject but one of the weirdest things that happened to me one time was when the stock blow off valve on my car came apart under acceleration and the car all but died in the middle of a busy road, thank god it was close to where I live.

stuff like that is funny when you read it but man that must have sucked I hate when stupid shizzle like that leave you stranded..never heard of one failing like that though, maybe a freak piece
should have just unplugged the vaf and limped it home
