I made a new box to fit my trunk better... but sometimes when it hits it sounds like crap compared to my old box... granted my old box was proffesionally built, however, i used the same wood, MDF, and the same exact air space. the only real difference i can see is that my old box is carpteted, does carpeting really make that big of a dampening difference, and a difference in the way the subs hit?

In order to answer effectively, we'd have to know what kind of box the old one was vs. the new one. Sealed? Ported? Bandpass? What, exactly, did you change? And what kinda subs are you using, with what amp?

Do you have any supports on the inside of the box?

You should be able to knock on the box and it not make any sound.

The carpet could have one influence you have overlooked.
