According to Thomas Knight, the stock n/a pistons can handle up to 7 psi of boost.

I also checked that the rings on the n/a are the same as the turbo rings. Verified via mazda part number.

Just thought someone maybe interested.

That is pretty interesting. You know, with the N/A's higher compression ratio, 7 psi would be pretty freaking stout. You'd have to worry about other things of course, like the tranny not handling the power, among other things. But, if you could do it, it'd be pretty quick.

i'm not planning on doing it. I have other things in mind..17 actually.

they don't have kits available to my knowledge, but you can ask. What Imagine he'd say is to turbo your car via buying GT parts.

The only pricing they have for the 1st gen is the IHI turbo upgrade to the Garrett T3-Td04, which is $650.

However, he will recommend to change to turbo pistons. According to him the pistons are $45 a piece at a mazda dealer and can be changed in a weekend.
