Hi all just thought i would keep you all updated on how my car is going.
I have just purchased a Supra intercooler for my mx6 and it should be installed within this month so i will try get some pics of the process as I do it.

I have looked into this intercooler for some time now and have heard mixed results some say it is great for a car like ours some say it is bad :rolleyes: well thier is only one way to find out and thats to do it so i am and plus i got the cooler for $150 from a good mate and its in basically brand new condition its from a 94 model i think but will have to clarify.
damm i love mates rates :p

The cooler size is 500mm by 380mm so i hope this cools my babys intake charge a bit more and lets her swallow nice cool dense air

Anyway just a question on top of this do you think i should maintain the stock intercooler pipe size or should i increase it
to a larger size ?????

Has anyone ever seen this intercooler on a car or seen one in a project ????

Anyway i will be sure to post pics so stay tuned and thy shall recieve.

Get bigger piping man.
The stock size is WAY too restrictive i know with the setup that i have when the cooler goes on the piping must be at least 2.5" no smaller that is only because 2.5" will flow the air from my 450Hp turbo nicley with no restriction but 3" is way to big. If you are getting the cooler now you maze well upgrade the piping because this will leave you open to upgrade turbos etc in the future with alot less hassel. :cool:

Well basically i just wanna use the stock turbo i have no major plans at the moment to run a bigger turbo that stuff will all happen on my second mx6 FE3 projects but for now what size pipes should i use 2" i was thinking 2 inch????

Any thoughts i get the cooler tommorow so ill post a pic of it up beside the front of the car.

Mate,

The truth of the matter is, you will only lose throttle response if you get a pipe that is any bigger than the smallest part of the intake. Which is most likely going to be the turbo outlet.

If you go for say a 2.5" or 3" then you are just forcing the turbo to fill up more area with air when it hits boost, therefore taking more time to fill the manifold with that boost, and resulting in a slower response when you put your foot down.

If you were planning on getting a bigger turbo then I would say go for it... otherwise, then don't bother.

Yeah thanks for that Tripharn i have no intention of upgrading turbo i just wanted to know if bigger pipes would be a better option but with our stock turbo i also didnt think that the bigger pipes would be needed.
And plus the smaller the pipe the faster the air travels anyway :p

Mate i acually might be able to get you a cooler if ya want i have a mate who dead set is just unbelivable some of the stuff he can get he is the Brisbane distributor for XRACING and all their parts and has made some big contacts over this year so if anyone wants anything he can probly get it and for very cheap as well so just email or post here what yua after and ill set him to work for ya.

But i took the cooler to PWR and they would give me 400 for it on the spot a bloke had been looking for one for his Altessa cause it is acually the bigger supra cooler that i got like 95 Onwards i think

Anyway it should be on this week if i am lucky and i will have pics up as soon as she is done

Well, I am definately interested in getting an aftermarket IC, as the boost I'm running currently is definately too high for the stock IC, and I want to hi-flow the stock turbo (when I win lotto) so it should lead to a pretty quick car in the end.

I'll see what the pics look like anyway.

PS. I suppose if I won lotto I would be doing more than hi-flowing the stock turbo :D
