Hi,

Just replaced the distributor on my car. On the outside of the distributor was a small transistor with a wire that goes nowhere (disconnected). What is it for and where does it connect? Find no reference in my repair guide or online.

Car runs fine without it (finally passed CA smog test) but would like to know whether I should sweat the fact it was not connected and no longer on.

Thanks!

Okay, just looked at the new distributor again. I think the transistor is now located on the inside, not on the outside like the original I removed.

Now I'm feeling kind of foolish though, did I replace the distributor (check engine code for the sensor) when all I had to do was reconnect it?

Had to replace the IAC anyway (thank you salvage yard for saving me $500) and the $200 at Pep Boys was not a killer, all things considered. Just very curious now.
