About a week ago I started searching for a good first car for myself when I stumbled upon a 1990 MX6 for cheap, cheap being the most important thing to me right now since i'm only 16. Any way I realized that it was turbo charged and was pretty quick so i've been doing more looking around trying to find the potential of these cars. After searching for answers to most of my questions, i still have a few more, if u don't mind...

-The most important question I have is how, "long do these turbos last?" If i do buy a 90' MX6 is the turbo still going to be any good? I know it mostly matters how it was driven and maintianed but i just need a ballpark estimate on the number of miles a turbo can take.

- I figured that since these cars come tc it wouldn't be too hard to cheaply raise the preformance with a boost controller, and ecu mods. Is this true, just how much $ does it take to make on of these fast? Or maybe just faster...

- What are some of the first most practical mods to do to an Mx6? Remeber money is a big issue for me.

- Lastly, what is the fastest Igen Mx6? What can these 4-bangers handle?

I'm sorry for these noob questions I know how anoying noob posts are being a former member of other form but, i have been looking around trying to find the answers. I look foward to learning more about these cars, they look to be great.
thanx

Lets see...

When I got my car, it had 212k on it, and was still on the original turbo, as far as I know. I have all of the maintenance receipts siince the car's first oil change, and there's nothing in there indicating a new turbocharger, or a rebuild. Best thing to do is check the shaft for play, and see how freely it spins.

Performance is cheap... I've invested 90 dollars for a fuel pump, 35 for a cone filter with adapter, 80 for a chip, and 7 bucks for a bleeder valve, and went 14.7 with a 2.4 60ft in 90 degree weather. So with a good 60ft in cooler weather, should be good for an easy 14.5

Most practical mods are preventive maintenance. Change your shifter bushings, your oil, tranny fluid, plugs, wires, run a compression check and make sure everything is in as tip-top shape as possible before you start boosting. From there.. well, see my last response up above.

Fastest 1st gen is probably Probe_This on Probetalk.com. 12.6 I believe... Fastest one I've personally seen is Alter_Ego, who went 9.2 @ 80.5 in the 1/8th at a crappy parkinglot track.

Hope this helped
