What's the trigger for the running of our two cooling fans...the radiator fan and the smaller auxilliary (?) fan behind the bumper?

I'm not completely sure the small auxilliary one is coming on when it's supposed to. Do I recall that it's associated with the a/c?

The other day I turned the ignition on w/o starting the car and then turned on the a/c to see if I could get the auxilliary fan to come on. The radiator fan came on. That seemed odd.

The radiator fan will come on when it's either:

a) hot
b) the a/c is turned on

The auxillary fan is actually for the a/c condensor and only comes on when the a/c compressor is running (the engine has to be running for that to happen). However, if you're low on freon the fan will not operate to prevent freeze-over.
