Isnt my race, but i thought i wud say it anyway, since its the first turbo PT i have seen, very rare in canada still..
Me and my friend were in his VR6 and were driving along, this PT cruiser (no passenger) gets beside us and guns it a few times, my friend floors it and we dont catch up, so im thinking WTF, a PT cruiser, then i see the trubo badging.. we get beside him in 2nd and he leaves a bit before us, but we keep running till the top of 3rd and we have about a half C/L on the guy!!
So after that, we get a stop light and he has his window down, my buddy askes him if he wants to run and the guy says yes.. Both of them got a good launch ide say, the train put about a half car on us in 1st, and another half car in 2nd, to the top of 3rd we stayed right on his bumper, then shut it down cuz it was on a main street, even though it was late and not much traffic... I'd say the train was lucky he didnt have a passenger as well, but it was a fun race...
Man can you hear the boost once it gets around 5krpm!!
Anyone know what a 5spd 2003 PT GT runs in the 1/4?
The PT only had a K&N filter, my friends VR6 has cone filter & chip...

What kind of VW does your friend have? And what the hell is a train?

I think the PT turbo is good for a low 15 sec 1/4 time (I could be wrong)

its a 97 golf VR6, me and him ran almost identical times at the track, on the street it depends who gets the better launch...

haha, you dont think it looks like a train?? Thats just what me and my friends call them... The first time we saw one i laughed so hard, it looked exactly like a train, and when they have bodykits it looks even more identical cuz it has the front plow thing, hah!!

The Turbo PT's only come in automatic here, I dont know if they droped the 5speed yet, there suppose to. Since the 5speed Neon SRT-4 runs 14.1, I guess the automatic Turbo PT runs about low 15 to high 14's???

I think they look pretty damn good, they do kinda look like a train. At least they dont look like a mini van like the 03 Civic SI (hatchbacks)

I found out that they have 3 engine choices now.
-2.4L making 150hp and 162ftlbs
(2 engines for GT package)
-2.4L Turbo making 180hp and 210ftlbs, thats what I think your friend raced. (only in automatic)
-2.4L Turbo making 220hp and 245ftlbs. This is the engine in the Neon SRT-4. (Now can have 5speed)

the automatics run high 15's, a stock mx6 should be a good race with an auto..
it was a 5spd with the 220hp engine, we stopped and talked with the guy afterwards, he showed us the engine and all, its really cramped in there, i wouldnt wanna work on that thing!!

the 2004 SRT-4 has 230hp 250tq and the PT weighs 650pounds more than the Neon which weighs only 2550, so im guessing the 5spd runs low 15's

I dont like the looks of them at all, the new civic hatch's are ugly, so if thats what they are being compared to it doesnt say much for them! Ever notice the taillights are on the rear fenders?? haha, the one we raced had clear tails aswell, looked funny!

If I remember reading correctly the PT turbo can be had with a 5 speed Getrag. The SRT-4 comes with a New Venue tranny I believe. Maybe its just me, but Id think theyd put the better tranny in the car more likely to be abused

That's what I'm saying. I know some of the SRT4s around here already have synchro issues inside of 10k. I would assume the Getrag is stronger. So wyh not use that in the SRT4 which is sure to be the more beat on of the 2

All the New Venture trannies suck. They have had a bunch of failures on 03 SRT4's already.

It's all about cutting corners. I'm sure they saved a few buck over the Getrag trannys. And what old ones are you referring to. The regular Neon trannys would have issue with this power I'm sure.

I know who the Daytona was made by. Skyline was just the car that jumped out at me as having a Getrag tranny. SVT Foci as well.
