Well my baby decided to overheat. When it did I pulled over and just chilled for it to cool down. Got it home and I've been reading on this site and in Haynes manual. My guess is that its the water pump, or the thermostate. When you look at your radiator, you'll notice that there are a larger hose going to the left side of it, and a smaller one goin to the right side of it. The left one is warm, and the right side one is cool. Could this mean Thermostat, I hope. Or should I shutter and think its the water pump? The fans are kicking out and I have coolant. Thanks...

does ur heater work when the car is running hot?? its probally ur thermastat which is located at the end of the radiator hose behind the distributor. FIX IT!!! dont be like me. now i need a new head gasket which puts my ls out of commision indefinitely. it'll be $8 now or $800 if u wait a couple days before fixing it like me

So you want me to start it up and wait for it to warm up and see if the heaters work, if the heater works then its the water pump I suppose....Dont worry, I'm not driving it. pulled it home on my dads trailor.

if the car is overheating and the heaters blowing out cold air then its probally ur thermastat. im not gonna say its the water pump just from that one question. if i were you though id start by replacing the thermastat, its cheap and easy to fix.

replace thermostat

Like the others are saying,, its cheap and will take like 15 mins tops.

I thought, ususally, waterpumps leaked like all hell before they actually "went out"

I was loseing pools and pools of antifreeze a day for a couple months from mine. Overheated bad once. Was REALLY REALLY lucky i didnt cost my self an engine. I killed it just as it hit the red area and walked about a mile to get some more coolant from walmart.

Try thermostat.

Alright well, I was told that if I turn my heat on, and it kicks it out, then its not the thermostat, and I did that..tons of heat. I dont know if I was told it on here, cause I dont wanna scroll and look. So I'm pretty sure its my water pump. I talked to my friends dad and he said he could get one, but he needs to know if its a square bolt, or something? Can someone let me know?

just because the heat still works doesnt nessesarily mean that the thermastat doesnt need replaced. if it didnt work than that would be a definite sign it needs replaced but even though the heat works it might still be the thermastat.

im telling u seejay.... do the thermastat!! it costs $5!!!!! it'll take 15 minutes to do!!! if you replace your water pump, you're gonna end up doing another useless repair just like your fuel pump ;) only this one will having you taking the engine half way apart!!

believe me if theres still a chance that its anything besides the water pump than fix that first. you dont want to replace the water pump unless you have to.

Well, just thought I should say, it was both lol

I guess the thermostat was horrable, and the water pump was just a little messed up, so they replaced both, and installed for 120 bucks...
