I tried to search around but i haven't found anything on how to check what kind of engine i have...I know it might sound dumb first, but here is my case:

I bought a '93 mx-6 about 2 years ago and than last year i went over a dip( god i hate those ) and my engine block broke ( there was a hair thick line on it and the oil kept coming out as a gel) ...
After that i changed my engine, but i don't know whether it's kzle or the regular V6... There is japanise writings on it, that's y i wonder..

My question is that is there any way to tell the difference by just looking at it or do i have to take it apart? It runs better than the old did, but i don't know... i heard that even if i put a j-spec kzle engine in my car, it won't do any difference until i change the ECU...( i wouldn't bet my life on it though...)

I would really appretiate it if somebody could help me out on this...

Thanx

I don't think either engine should have japaneese writing on it. My ZE doesnt. And I don't recall my 0-3 having it either, but I will check my storage room later to verify. Just look at pics of both either in engine bays or on Ebay or on Corksport or one of several other sights. Pay particular attention to the intake manifold on top. The ZE ones look different. This isn't an end all diagnosis since they can be swapped, but it's the easiest place to start. If you see an 03 intake manifold, (The original one.), then you can be 99.9% sure you have a KL03.

And running better could just be a newer engine that has better compression.
