Which exhaust system?

683 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  nasher
The time has come, as it must, when the present system has to go.

Any tips on what's worth the cash and what's not?
Should I just get an OEM centre section and a tasty back box?
Can I de-cat the set up?

Would be nice to squeeze a few more horses out if possible, of course.

Cheers all. :)

Hi

Stainless steel is the way to go. Then you should consider what sound and look you would like.

Do you want it to be "growling" while idling or only on acceleration?
Do you wnat a single tail pipe or twin?

I thhink the Scorpion exhaust system is best because its discreet when idling but growls when accelerating and doesn't annoy you on long journeys with prologned 60-85mph trips.

I know there'll be others along to say that the big bores are best... this type of thread has been up before.

The choice is yours.

Elmer

btw. If you decide on a big bore, I have a big bore cat-back exhaust system if you want it lol.

Powerflow - simply put - I think they're the best value for money, and the best vrrrooom for your buck.

Mine has done the trick for years now.

how much do you want for your exhaust m8 would it be possible for you to PM me some photos if you still want rid off
thanks jim
I recently bought a Scorpion seeing as that seemed to be the general consensus as to what to go for.....

Although it does sound good, I have to say I get complaints from my passengers who tell me the car sounds like it's got a massive hole in the exhaust!!

Anyone sat in the car tends to end up with a headache due to the excessive cabin noise.

I guess it doesnt matter so much to me as I must be used to it I hardly notice it but my passengers do and many hate it.

If I had known quite how much noise came from it I would probably have stuck with standard, although being by the sea that would have probably been prohibitive to me cash wise.

In hindsite if I were looking for an exhaust system I would definately pay more attention to the resonance produced, so perhaps buying a tunable system which you can make sound how you want it to would be a better way to go?

Hi

I can't understand why you would have people complaining about your scorpion.... Is there a hole in the exhaust? I regularly use mine as a family car and have no complaints from mother or daughter.

Elmer
I don't think there is a hole, my mechanic puts it down to the fact that the scorpion being steel has a different ressonance to a standard exhaust and theirfore my passengers find it hard to get used to.
Fit a standard exhaust via a reasonable parts factor.

It will still sound good and will be lovely and quiet inside.

My new rear silencer cost about £50.

I agree:tup:

Got mine off e-bay £35 and was a brand new genuine Mazda. Sounds great;)
