OK, I have to ask this one why did Mazda discontinue the MX6? I’m curious, I’ve driven a few MX5’s but I never fell for them in the same way as the MX6.

I’m not having a pop at MX5’s it’s a combination of lots of things, just not quite enough space, noisy if you driving with the soft top on… you get the drift.

No one seems to have seen a MX6 and every time I meet someone after a meeting, in the street, kids at my daughters school… …everyone says the same thing “oh I like you car, what is it?”

Well, I guess that 6 years isnt an unusual amount of time for 1 model of car to last in production.. also, Mazda only sold around 4800 in the UK (not a lot at all) and a sports tourer certainly wouldn't have the mass pulling power that a little roadster like the MX-3 has.

I also think that the MX-6 was under-marketed, and as a result, the press never really got stuck into it andsupported it in the same way that they do with many, more common cars..

At the end of the day though, your guess is as good as mine, and to be honest, Im rather glad its not a common car like a Nova, Escort (sorry Tony2Quick4u - its not a dig) or Golf.

Uuuum under marketed that’s certainly a possibility. I was trying to rack my brains as to the coupes that were around at the time. Given the budget £20K, at the time that was the equivalent to £40K now (a lot of dosh)

What was the competition, Toyota Celica/(Supra next level), Honda Prelude, Mitso FTO/(GTO next level) and that’s as far as I get so not a lot of competition?

You could be right any chance that Mazda will do a MX6+?

do a search for threads on competition.. there has been a few discussions on this before I think.. I think youre right to say those models..Ive heard it compared to the VW Corrado, BMW 325i and a few others too.. Dont think Mazda will do another 6.. They don't have a big enough following to base another car on it.. unlike the RX-7 which was re-shaped to be the new RX-8 (which IMHO is not as good as the old RX-7)

apparently the rx-8 isnt to replace the rx-7 cause they are luanching a new replacement rx-7 soon. think I saw the info on the front of the rotary magazinre or somthing, maybe on the rotary website

I suspected the RX8 wasn't a replacement for the RX7 as it would be like saying the MX6 is a replacement for the MX5 (although the 5 out lived the six - for now ), but I was hoping and praying that we would see a new shape RX7 with all the supercar performance that comes with it

Looks like I couldn't have been more wrong then.. Doh!!, though I dont think you can really compare the MX5 andMX6, I do think that the RX7 and RX8 are at least reasnoably comparable.

The RX-7 is a 2 door, 2 seater sportscar..
The RX-8 is a 4 door, 4 seater grand tourer, that goes like a sportscar..

According to all the reports I have heard, the RX-8 is not the replacement for the 7.

Something does ring a bell regarding a new RX-7 coming out though.

yes but arent you all glad to have an individual car, not a normal common car like a *Cough* Ford Probe.....LOL!!

I know it may have been discontinued now but at least not alot of people know about the car which is great as then it is more stealth like and people wonder what the hell it is when you waste them on the motorway or at the lights!

You hardly see any Mx6's on the road (although i have noticed more of them since Stuey bought his) and the same with the Ibiza Cupra's, i would much rather have one than a golf (which is exactly the same as the Seat)

so really i think we choose Mazda 6's and for me Ibiza Cupra's cos we all like to be individual and from the lack of advertising and promotion for our type of cars is great as then it really adds to the whole stealthyness of them! and makes you feel more individual on the road as well!

i say don't follow the normal consumer brand, be different and stand out!! (no banana jokes either! LOL!!)
