Final result seems to be Mazda discontinued these parts. Even though many websites are showing these parts available, after you place the order, they come back and advise the parts are discontinued and not available. At least that has been my experience, and I have tried 2 websites and 2 dealers.
We haven't been much help to the OP. He originally asked for a part for his 91 MX-6, from a 90 to 92, as he mentions the 88 to 89 differ, even thought all are 1st generation. I got confused on that for a while.
I would plan to install the tank sensor I got from the 99 junkyard 626, but now I have no idea if it is the correct one for
my 94 MX-6, even though the diagrams look the same. I would not want to drop the fuel tank and go to all that work only to have it not be able to be installed.
You will notice in my first post, according to one site some 88-89 MX6/626 2.2l MT use part number GN51-60-960A level sensor units.
and I said:
"If it is the same tank level sensor thats used on the 5speed 88-89 mx6/626 with analogue cluster I might have some of them, I know the digital cluster tank level sensors are different than the analogue for those years (and if I recall they very depending on the type of steering control the car comes with).
If you look at the 90+ WSM and 88 or 89 WSM you have a series of test for these units, if all the values are the same (ohms or volts or whatever) at the same position than both units will give the same readings on the gauge. "
And asked for a picture. I have a few different types of 88-89 level sensors.
As for your problem with the level sensor, this "If you look at the 90+ WSM and 88 or 89 WSM you have a series of test for these units, if all the values are the same (ohms or volts or whatever) at the same position than both units will give the same readings on the gauge." applies to you to.
Before you ask what good the 1st gen WSM are to you, replace the years with 94 and 99.

They have the 98 and 2001 but no 99 manual, however you only need the 1994 WSM.
If there is a section that has this test for your year MX6 level sensor:
Test the 99 626 junk yard sensor at the positions listed for the 1994mx6 level sensor (as through it was an 1994 level sensor), if the travel distances are the same and the resistances at those points are the same (as those listed in the 1994 workshop manual) than the sensor will give you the correct reading on the fuel gauge. if the wire connector at the sending unit is different but both level sensors have two wires, connect the two wires together (properly, safely and reliably) from the level sensor sensor to the sending unit, turn the key to accessory and move the float, with your hand with the sending unit plugged to the car but not in the tank, if the fuel gauge moves reinstall everything, if it doesn't reverse the level sensor wires.
