Hey all,

Ive been a lurker on this forum as well as PT for almost a decade now. I finally have a few MX6's & enough experience to make some posts & embarress/ learn a thing or two from you internet folk.

Ill attach a few pictures below, but beware; 1 of my cars may look familiar to some people on here... Ive been blessed to know & be great friends with a fellow MX6 enthusiast who has been on this forum & PT for well over a decade. I remember reading about firing orders when he was on here building his first turbo setup back in high school. Needless to say, I am forever grateful for the friendship & the seeds of love for these beloved MX6's that my buddy planted.

Quick Car Intro:

"YIN" 1996 Mazda MX6 M edition 5spd MT -For Sale- (Bay Area California)
My black MX6 M edition has been in my family for almost 5 years now. I remember seeing the original craigslist post when I first moved to California & couldn't believe someone would let one of these beauties go for so cheap. Mind you, the condition wasn't perfect cosmetically, & the timing had been royally screwed up by a local mechanic shop that ended up returning the car to the customer as is. That gave me a perfect opportunity to score this car for what I thought was a steal at the time.

Fast forward 5 years & I finally have the time, space, patience, & experience to tackle this fix on my own. Overall reading my Chilton & doing research online took me more time then the actual repairs.

So far I have replaced the following in the last month: Timing belt, both accessory belts, timing tensioner, water pump, spark plugs, spark plug wires, disty cap, disty rotor, battery, EGR solenoid(s), & all new fluids. So far she is running like a charm & is idling well & mechanically running darn near perfect.... sadly I am tracing a CEL (P0443) for a purge control valve/circuit.

IF anyone has a 96 or newer KLDE with all emissions intact I would greatly appreciate a pic or two of your hoses & EGR valve orientation. I'm starting to think that the previous owners might've swapped a few of these when the car was at the shop. I haven't had any reason to unplug the emissions stuff so I am at a loss for how this stuff should be routed... sadly my Chilton doesn't refer to any pictures as well.

"YANG" 1996 Mazda MX6 M edition 5spd MT

This white MX6 has only been officially mine for a little under a month or so, but I have known of this exact car & its history from about 2011 & onward.
Long story short, I remember trailering this car from the middle of Ohio back to my buddy's house back in 2011 sometime. This car was one step away from the junkyard & had suffered some severe body damage from the midwest winters.

If you know who owned this car, then you know it couldn't have had a better owner for the 7+years. All bodywork was repaired by one of the best fabricators I've ever met, while the motor & mechanical side of things were being built up by my good friend.

All in all, this car made a complete comeback & at once was arguably one of the cleanest & fasted MX6's out there. I'm not saying it was THE cleanest OR fastest, I'm just saying that it was a very respectable setup to anyone who knows anything about 4 wheels.

Fast forward to present day to me being at the right place at the right time to purchase such a gem. Having learned a ton alongside my friend it only seemed right that I save this car from being sold to someone who wouldn't have appreciated it for what it is. Needless to say, I couldn't be more stoked to have this ride as my daily driver.

Thats the quick version of my MX6 garage, I look forward to learning along side the community & cant wait to meet some other 6 owners in person. If you live in the Bay Area or CA in general, reach out so I can start planning some weekends to meet some new wrenching buddies out west!

Here is the EGR water hose diagram. One hose comes from water outlet to throttle body.....then throttle body to egr.....then egr back to water source. 3 water hoses total View attachment 13513

Thank you Goodbar! Ive since replaced every vacuum line as well as a few solenoids, vacuum chambers, & charcoal canister.

Im starting to think I have a clogged port on the IM for one of the vacuum lines and/or a loose rear valve cover that's not allowing the manifold to hold absolute pressure.
Once the rain stops I plan on getting back into it & see if I can track down a clogged port before I have to rip the entire manifold off.

All the work I've done has definitely added to the performance of this motor as it idles so well & pulls hard when you take it for a spin. If only I could get this CEL taken care of so I can list it for sale at a decent price rather than losing money with all the repairs Ive done.

Thanks again for the diagram!
