FS-ZE Capabilities?

A Honda Civic HB weighs only 2200 - 2400 with a GSR motor. It runs low 14's and high 13's stock. We know the GSR motor has 170 hp and 128 or 129 lbs of torque. (Not really the case.) Now a 4 banger mx6 weighs 2310 according to 626butnotforlong website. The FS-ZE is capable of 170hp with 131 lbs of torque. Now, if we successfully did the swap, the 4 banger should be running those same times right? Cuz I've been just thinking. A successful FS-ZE should run those times, so with normal bolt-ons, a racing clutch and lightened flywheel should break it to the mid or high 13's. Plus a 50 shot of nitrous would help it boost to the low 13's or mid 13's. Please give me some feedback on what you think.

Okay, from reading the posts that parsifal created about modding the I4, I remember that NO ONE has successfully made the transplant. Why? Because the ecu and the wiring harness isn't available, plus it's kinda hard to control the VICS because the 4 banger US doesn't have a VICS or VRIS, however the FS-ZE does. The FS-ZE also is a direct bolt-in place, no motor mount is needed. (Not too sure if I remember reading that or not, correct me if I'm wrong again.) But like I said, the problem is the ecu and the wiring harness.

Why can't we rip it off of a j-spec 4 banger? And why would Mazda make a more powerful engine for the 4 banger 6 if they wouldn't give us a wiring harness and ecu for it. I thought it was intentionally for the mx6, but then Protege also uses the FS-ZE. Someone said that we could use the Protege's ECU? I don't remember reading that or not

I really dunno what I'm writing right now, please just enlighten me. I guess my questions were:

"Would an FS-ZE in a 4 banger 6 run the same time or even better like a HB with a GSR?"

"And is the only thing we needed for the FS-ZE is just the wiring harness and the ECU?"

actually there are about 4 successful transplants running around the US, contact corksport for the names, most are in NC.... the fsze is not even close to a direct bolt in...... the wiring alone will take an ASE tech 8hrs of work.... proteges actually are a frequent swap.... their ecu has vris already on it so it is a true bolt in... an fsze swap will run you about 6K total assuming you can get the engine and loom for under 1600...... how do i know you ask? i tried the project myself and decided to go turbo......

I too have been reading up on the fs-ze swap, and realized it would be much more cost efficient to go with a turbo setup, the american spec is better to boost because of the lower compression ratio, and the j-spec intake cam will bolt right it and give 8whp, with the turbo, more power can be made cheaper than going with the fs-ze www.racingmazda.com has a kit, but havent heard anything about it

With only 4psi on the Racingmazda turbo kit, the best dyno put out 162whp and 175wtq. Right now the car is down, awaiting a rebuild of a donor '95 626 engine that will get forged internals. Just want more boost but I want to have insurance on my motor instead of wondering how much boost a stock FS can take.

how was the fitment/workmanship of your kit? How hard was the install? i really like those numbers from only 4psi, don't stock dsm's run at 11 psi or so and only pull 195 crank hp and 203 ft/lbs at the crank? But the 4g63 has the edge in the amount of boost that can be ran in a stock engine

hehe well first off the dsms are made for boost obviously since then come turboed....we can run around 20psi on the stock turbo before getting into fuel problems or anything and the bottom end is good for even more hp.... the fs engine will run upto 8psi safely with an fpr and fmu for fuel. After that you will need forged pistons and rods... on my 2nd gen I ran 6-8 daily and hit boost spikes and still held together.... it went when the kid i sold it to hit a 15psi spike and didnt let off....

I would have the most difficult time believing 2300lbs for a 4cyl MX6....That number seems about 300-400lbs TOO light...does anyone actually believe the 4cyl MX6 weighs the same as a Miata???

my miata, without roll bar, weighs in at 2290. 2340 with bar. I have one of the lightest year miatas too - although one of the heaviest for the 1.6L miatas, due to the leather seats, etc.

I definitely agree on that number of psi for the stock FS motor. I wouldnt run more that that or for surely not in double digits on boost! Also on weight Id say between 2700-3000 w/driver. I think im right under 3000lbs in the car since I weigh right at 200lbs.
