I took a little journey to the pull a part this morning and found a front ended Kia Sportage, from I believe 2000. It had of course the Kia FE3 and it also had what looked to be a COP/EDIS type of ignition. It had two ignition modules over two plugs, then it had one lead coming off of both modules to the other plugs. It was weird. I also saw something that surprised me. This Kia had FE3N intake and exhaust cams!! So guess what I snagged up? :)

The exhaust cam was stamped K013, but is the same as the FE3N. The only difference in the numbering system, is that the K013 cam is for the distributorless ignition system. At the end of the exhaust cam it was keyed and there was a camshaft position sensor.

So there you go. :)

Compnut has the cams and the ignition modules, so if he could post some pics, that would be awesome.

Thanks Comp!! :D

I still can't believe the score today. It was awesome! Hopefully they will have another soon! I might go back and get the CPS if I can get it. I don't know if I can though, with it being shoved back into the firewall.

We didn't take a micrometer to it, but eyeballing next to each other, they are both the same.

I'm not sure about the cams, but this one came from either a 2000 or 2001. It had the distributorless ignition system. Also, who really cares about how it looks? Just my opinion, function or form 24/7.

My dads is out of a 95...hopefully in a couple weeks he'll start tearing it down...i'll get lots of pics then...prolly even hold of on the assembly of mine til then to compare...Mine are both FE3N, might even be able to measure them out...

Dude, where is the picture of the CAS unit? The other bits we've seen before (though not this well, thanks!). Crack out your cell and snap some of it if you can please.

As for the cams, lay them on a flat surface and look at them on the end, it should be obvious if they are different profiles or timing as they will sit differently.

thats what i did and they look identical. i think the different part number is solely because of the different cas hookup. (its a key/pin instead of slotted like the f2t/fe3/mx5 ones.)

Here is what it looks like. Identical. Check out the exhaust cam rear.
I'm not sure when I'm going to have time to go check it out again though

Anybody notice the water/coolant ports on the kia manifold right near the flange? RandyS always talked about running fluid thru 'em to help reduce the intake temps. Hmmm... ;)

Ok I call total bullshit. I just pulled a ko13 and fe3n from an 01 and eyeballing it you can totally tell they are way off eachother. I didn't even need to mike them to see they r not the same

The later ones may be different as well...the early ones in the kia's seem (to me) to be alot closer to the mazda ones...I can mike mine as well, mine was pulled from a 96, wanted to mike my dad's when he had his apart, but never had the chance...his is a very early 95 dohc...one of the first after the switch...

resurrecting a dead thread to add information.

the K013 cam IS IN fact the same as the Fe3n cam as far as lift (don't have a degree wheel yet so cant check degree, but set the cams in the same positions and all the lobes correspond with each other in the same locations) the only difference is the rear of the cam for the trigger to be read by the CAS. just thought id clear it up.

i mic'd mine last night because i was wondering if i should to the in/ex swap with the fe3n cam or not. and since no one had any numbers or duration on the K013 cam.

my cam came out of a 2001 Kia Sportage.

I should add that if you need to use the KIA exhaust cam you can just grind a slot into it for the mazda ignition pick-up (cas in my case) and run it that way, fits and works fine.
